Tired

Long time lurker, third time poster (I think).
Question: My back tire is starting to show signs of wear but is still rideable as such. With Amerivespa coming up (and just getting a new Malossi 160 cylinder and working to get that broken in) I don't have much time to work on changing the actual tire. I was thinking of switching the spare for the back tire, I figure the back tire would work in a pinch as a spare if anything happens. Then after AV I could just switch things back, order a new back tire and switch that out.
How... stupid is this idea?
