Modern Buddy

Well, I finally got my crème Stella 4T scooter and I love the thing. But over the last few days of getting her I went out to hit some of my regular spots around town and every time I parked her to go inside I'd look back and within minutes there would be folks mulling around checking out my wheels. Yesterday I went to my local pub and within minutes there were two families with about four kids surrounding my Stella touching her and pointing at her (lucky for them no one got on her).

Perhaps I’m just being paranoid, but I still have flashbacks after someone here said they caught parents putting their kids on their scooter. I’m sure when my Stella is all chromed up she’ll be even more desirable to passerby’s so I guess I’ll just have to keep a close eye on her when I’m out and about.

Much to my chagrin, hot chicks keep getting on my Stella. I have the pics to prove it, not that I can ever focus hard enough to actually learn how to do it though.

It looks very easy according to the docs - I'm waiting for delivery.

$70 at Amazon, or $140 for the fancier 8017 model with two-way paging.

Once you find a mounting place, say, in a cowl or glove box, you simply run a 12v wire to the battery, a ground wire, a tilt sensor, an optional system-armed LED, and a bit of antenna wire. Lots of mounting stuff and Velcro are included. Several siren modes, seven levels of shock/vibration sensitivity, a warn-away chirp mode, a current-drain sensor, and a tilt sensor. Sounds pretty cool.

A gent from Gorilla mentioned over in the General area that the radio pulls somewhere in the 9mA area in standby, something like 10mA when armed. Doing the math, this means that if your scoot sits for a few weeks without a charger, it could drain the battery. Something to keep in mind.

in the upper right of the page i'm looking at in this Forum there is an ad for Lock and Loud it is an alarm and a disk lock. and it just takes snapping it on no install.

I thought about a Xena, which I agree is simpler, but I keep my scoot outdoors under a Prima bag which elastics over the brake disc. I'd probably set it off every morning uncovering the scoot. Not only that, but the Buddy (at least) has a fundamental flaw: the disc is on the left and the steering column locks left. Very difficult to get in there and disable the alarm, it would seem, and I don't want to risk mama's ire by sounding it on a regular basis. I'm going to try the Gorilla with its remote fob and see how it goes. Price is aboutnthe same.

I did add a Trimax non-alarm disc lock for another $13, just to add another layer.

Yes disk locks are nice and I'd love to have a Xena, but none of them seem to fit the Stella 4T disk.

This sounds so familiar. I bought my Stella in 06 and there was the same buzz around here, in the Cleveland area, for about a year until scooters became more of a regular sight. It was so crazy that I recall parking with a buddy of mine, who rides a pimped out Harley, to get wings and a group of girls closed in on us. They ignored his Harley and couldn't get enough of my Stella. As best as I know, nobody ever actually sat on her. The only thing electrical I added was an air horn for safety on the road and that has actually been a life saver. The biggest annoyance has been trying to explain my vintage looking Stella was actually brand new. I eventually gave in on the last issue and when asked, "What year is this", I'd tell them what they wanted to hear. "It's a low mileage 1982". The response was a brief, "Great condition man, very cool" and I was back on the road riding with a grin plastered on my face.

Same here 100% This got my stella 4t almost 2 mouths old and got 1100 miles on it and I really do hate it. Even if I would park VERY far from a store people would drive by it really slow and look at it or sometimes they would stop and get out, and other time people would park there shopping cart by it... Why I don't know. So do I like my stella YES but I miss driving my buddy 125 because every now and then someone would stop and talk to me about it and most of the item it's about the MPG.

P.S. this to something funny 2 kids already tryed to race me on it and alout of other guys show off... But hey whated makes them happy
