leg shieldbeading replacement

Post by toeknee »

the item im talking about is number 15 on the attached photo

sooo, i dumped my stella, its almost time for the 500 mile maintenance, and im thinking about replacing the beading that goes around the legshield

it got pretty banged up and was about 1/3 off, i put it back on with some pliers but now it rattles (very loudly)

the people at scooterworks in chicago told me they dont replace them (as "it never stays on") so they said

should i just get the rubber stuff (as i plan on getting leg shield & cowl protecters anyways)

has anyone here ever replaced the legshield beading succesfully???

thanks in advance

Sounds like a good Stela Speed question to me. I don't know that there is anything those guys haven't done to a Stella.

I spoke to my dealer and a couple of mechanics about this and from all reports, replacing it with the crimping tool is a big, time-consuming pain. They were pretty adamant that I should go with either the rubber or the screw-on chrome trim. If you want the chrome look, the latter's probably a lot cheaper and easier.

Just a thought, use a small bead of clear silicone as sort of an adhesive/vibration dampener.....

Or, use the plastic/metallic legshield trim that Piaggio uses on the Millennium PX Vespas. It can be a little difficult to attach, but not impossible, and looks very neat after installation. Just need strong hands and patience.

Here is a link to the part:
