First drop...And then there was the gas leak.

Had to happen sometime I guess--I dropped my bike. It had been precipitating a bit, I was on a perpendicular incline trying to park and my foot slipped when I tried to pull it up on the center stand. Not a big deal, no scratches whatsoever!
Went to do my daily stuff, came out to go home and it wouldn't start. I knew it was lowish on gas. I had been having a problem with it starting easily when it was low on gas, so I thought I'd go get a 1/2 gallon from the gas station. When I got back to my scooter, gas was dribbling out. A lot.
Scooter shop is closed, so I called a friend who works on motorcycles. He said to put the gas in anyway and try again. Still no starting and gas was pouring out. I was told it is probably the carburetor float stuck.
Has anyone had experience with this? I even tried moving the scooter around to see if it would start at a different angle. I will call the shop tomorrow, but I'm hoping there's an easier way to check this besides having it towed downtown.
