Ever heard of this problem?

Post by Howardr »

Some back ground: I recently put a Malossi 166 kit with a stroker crank on my Stella. we upgraded all the bearing to Italian ones.

We're having problems getting her tuned, but that's not my question

That is my coil coil bracket. It snapped in half within 100 miles of the kit installation. Also, I was 5 miles from home and had to push her all the way. When we went to the shop to order the part, they couldn't find the part number because they had never heard of one breaking before. Finally got the part ordered and installed. (Takes all of 5 minutes to do.

a week later, same part snapped in the same place. This time, i was only 2 miles from the scooter shop. Pushed her there. My favorite club mechanic had made on of these brackets himself, when we had difficulty ordering the first replacement. I called him and he brought it over.

This one was made of steel. We were sure it would be okay. Wrong! The second time I rode, I pushed Stella home. Fortunately, I was one a mile from my house.

Anyone heard of this happening. All 3 piece fractured at the same place.

I had my bracket snap on my Stock stella at 5k miles about 100 miles away from home. A gentleman stopped and fixed us up using a rock and a pipe clamp!

My shop fixed it under warranty by drilling two holes into the frame and mounting the bracket there. 3500 miles later and a 177 kit and it has given me no problem, I'll snatch a picture of the fix for you later.

Yeah, I've seen a few break. so its not uncommon. Move the coil or support it better so the bracket doesn't "bounce"
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?
