Side stand questions

Post by Robbie »

I read one or two posts from members who had installed the optional sidestand on their Stella.

My questions are, does it interfere with the centerstand operation?
How is it attached.....does the machine have to be modified?
Do you feel it adds too much stress at its mounting points?

Thanks in advance.

Rob... I have a side stand from a Bajaj..
I had it on my 08 Stella. it bolted right up.
But soon found out that you shouldn't run the engine while on it;'s side stand..
as tranny oil splashed up and out a vent and collected inside the rear hub.. saturating the rear brake shoes and eventually seeped out all over my rim and tire.
so I took it off... and tossed it into the scrap steel bin...
THEN... along comes my 2010 4 stroke,,,,,
well... I took off the center stand.... put on the side stand and then put the center stand on too!!!
Just had to buy 1/4 inch longer bolts..
nice fit!..
The side stand worked great! The bike felt safe and secure on it. Plus I stood along side and shook and wiggled the hell out of it trying to get it to tip over..
it passed the test!!
BUT... Now here's the kicker,,,,
I couldn't put it on the center stand UNLESS i flipped down the side stand first..
There was a conflict for space in one area where the 2 stands met if you left the sidey up and tried to center down only..
I took it back off and am now on the center stand only..
BUT... Im contemplating moving the mounting holes on the side stand about 3/8th inch to the motor side..allowing me to move the side stand 3/8th inch to the battery side..
This will eliminate the conflict thus allowing the use of either stand independently..
Im just too damm lazy to do that right now now...
Good luck with youe decision and your project should you decide to pursue it..

Very good, jimmbomb,

I appreciate the response......and, I suspect I can get creative as well.

Over the years I have gotten into the habit of, Stop, shutoff, sidestand down, dismount, and, if needed, then I centerstand and go about my business.
Sometimes, if a short term parking event, sidestand only, but if at all windy I go for the centerstand.

Sounds like this could be a viable mod and it isn't very expensive.

So, thanks again.

your welcome...
I just didnt like getting onto the bike while it's on it's centerstand AND the side stand poking way out there.. sometimes banged my lower shin while doing it..
That's probably why I took it off ...cause of the pain.. hahahah

just remember not to run the engine while it's on the side stand and you will be fine! (2 t only)

good luck
