Stella 4T top speed

Post by Maximus53 »

Hi all,
Having completed my 500 mile service and the Stella being a bit closer to being broken in, I decided to take it out and open it up and see how fast it would go with me on board. It pretty easily goes up to an indicated 50mph which by my watch GPS is 45mph and from there on a flat road I could only manage to get up to an indicated 55mph which was about 50 mph according to the GPS. I guess I was expecting about 5-10 mph more that that from what everyone else is reporting. Im a tall 215lbs with broad shoulders, so maybe i offer up a bit of wind resistance? Is there some fine tuning I should do to get a bit more out of the engine or are my expectations just set to high.

Thanks!

I would say that your MPH is not going to get up to much more. I weight 160 and I'm 5'9" and I just hit almost 60 .....if you want more they offer a big bore kit to make it a 170! We did one to a red stella with a side cart on it and a performance exhaust. It's pretty sweet.

I have the 4T with a sidecar (sometimes attached) and live around some hills and would LOVE some more power. Top speed is not bad, it is just getting there up a hill.

I've seen the Pinasco pipe and carb combo, but not the big bore kit. 2T or 4T?

As soon as the 2 year warranty is up...if I can last that long.

Keep in mind scooters are not broken in until +/- 1500 miles. Assuming proper break-in and maintenance you should see performance improvements as you get to that milage.

Top speed of mine was a real 50mph (indicated about 57-ish), after just over 1K miles.
On a flat road, in perfect conditions.

The dr177 kit ( and others) are available for the 2T. I haven't seen any big bore kits for the Stella 4t yet.
Though the pipe through scooterworks has to help. That Cat needs to go. I put an SIP on my 2T and rejetted and the difference is AMAZING!, and its still quiet .
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

I am tall, about 200 lbs, and after breaking it in and before I got a windshield I got it up to 60 mp indicated. after I got the "shorty" wind shield I get it regularly up to 65 and sometimes over! (but never 70)
I recently passed 2000 miles.
if you want faster (and who doesn't) then you can spend money now with the kits- or you can wait a very long time for the 200i to be released in the USA. but it may not be this decade.

ALSO - the Gas mileage at 60+ driving is crap. less than 100 MPG and it's ruining my Fuelly banner on my signature (ie bringing it down.)

when I cruise at 55 I get like 120 mpg. but lately I am in a rush more often than I am thinking about MPG, so..

SIP has a kit for the 4T, but IIRC it is only 165cc.

Do you have any pics with the windscreen?

I can regularly get an indicated 65 on flat roads, tucked, with no wind. I cannot say if that actual speed is actually any faster or if my speedometer is just 'more wrong'.

This is definately true, if enough power is available top speed is limited by red line and gearing. In my case, i definately have rev's left to go, but the scooter doesnt seem to have enough power to push through the wind to use them.

Seems like Eric mentioned in another thread that higher gear sets are available. I wonder what sort of top end one could expect with a fully maxed-out Stella, big bore, carbs, pipe and all?

There are bigger gear sets. I think any for the PX150s should fit. Don't hold me to that, though!

I get 55-60mph indicated on flats depending on I don't know what. My speedo is pretty close to accurate according to GPS. Top speed so far is 65mph indicated, downhill, the one time I took it up on the freeway.

I got mine up to 55mph indicated which according to the GPS in my iPhone was 52mph. Speedo is closer than I thought!
