So Yesterday I went to start the Stella and noticed that the lever was hanging much lower than usual, making it almost impossible to start without leaning her left to get extra space.
Turns out the lever had a hairline crack starting at the shaft and extending a good 10 cm. This in turn weakened the grip on the shaft and allowed the teeth to shear!
Got myself a replacement lever (only about 30 bucks) and went to fix her up. Getting the old lever off was the hardest part, but after a smashed finger and much cursing in Italian I managed to get it off. The teeth on the shaft were looking really bad while removing the old lever and I feared they may have sheared too, but taking a rag to it revealed that it was just remains from the old lever and it was fine.
A few mallet hits later the new lever is on and working great!

They can get tight. Just remember that the bolt fits in a key-way and must be fully removed to get the lever off.
