Remove the choke cable

Post by jmer1234 »

Does anybody know how to do remove the choke cable? I cannot figure out how to get it through the body of the scooter. The black pull head does not appear to come off, and the other end of the cable will never fit through the body.

Now it's been a while since Ive owned my 4t Stella, so this will be from memory..
Take off your engine side cowl. now follow the fuel line up past the fuel filter up towards the fuel tap valve. Next to the fuel tap valve, you should see where the choke cable goes thru the metal body . on the other side of the metal body is the black mushroom knob.
Now back to the engine side of the choke cable, you should see a 'keeper' that hold the cable HOUSING to the frame.
The cable is the 'inner' and the 'outer'.
The inner is the actual twisted silver wire that you see where it attaches to the carb. The outer is the black sleeve that the inner is inside of.
To remove the choke cable, you have to remove the inner and outer as one complete unit.
a phillips screw holds the end of the houseing to the carb with a brass looking clamp.
Loosen that screw and slide the end of the housing out of that clamp.
Now you'll be able to take the cable inner end out of the carb arm.
You get slack and wiggle that knarf (cable inner end) out of the black plastic choke arm on the carb.
Now that end is free and clear..
Now look up by the fuel tap and see where the choke cable outer goes thru the metal body.
You should see a 'keeper' that holds that outer housing in place right up against the body.
You'll have to remove that keeper and free up the outer.
When you do that, then you can pull the inner/outer entire cable out thru the hole that exits out the body towards the front..
when replacing.. go back thru with the carb end the same way you came out..

PS... this is all just a guess though...I could be wrong.. I cannot find any pictures or diagrams on the choke cable where it meets the metal body new the pull knob..
if some one could pull there cowl off and take a few pictures... that would help alot.

good luck...
