I'm thinking of getting a stella 150 but live in San Francisco. I'm concerned about a manual transmission with all the hills here. Is this crazy?

No it isn't. You get use to the shifting although the really steep hills a Stella will probably be slower going up than a Buddy. The Stella is a blast to ride.(and so the addiction begins.... ).

Quen047 is a member here that owns a stella and lives in SF. You should send he/she a message and get some feedback.

I love taking my Stella 4t to SF!

Each time I go, my girlfriend is clinging to me, with her life passing in front of her eyes!

What a rush!

You get used to the hills (steep enough that the sidewalks have stairs) pretty quick...

One quick tip, lean forward going uphill while accelerating.

I don't think the shifting will be a serious issue - I've ridden motorcycles in the city with no problem.

What would give me slight pause is the fact that the Stella isn't what you'd call "over powered". While breaking it in, you should probably avoid going up steep hills.

Also, going downhill, be careful to keep some weight over the back wheel and be judicious in applying the rear brake.
