Hi all,
I went for a long ride yesterday, and as I was about 2 hours in to my ride was was going down hill WOT with the wind at my back doing and indicated ~60mph. All of a sudden the engine shut down. Nothing locked up, but then engine was no longer firing. I coasted to a stop and the scooter fired right back up and was able to ride home with no further issues. My initial thought was the evap issue that has been talked about, but i have experienced that before, there is a studdering before the engine dies like running out of gas, and i have a 2T gas cap. This was a instant quit.

Now it sounds like there is a ticking sound coming from the engine that may have been there before, but i dont think so.

Any idea what could have happened?

Thanks in advance!
Max

No, it could be several things.

But if you were going WOT at basically max speed and the engine stopped firing ..... and you then immediately took it out of gear and coasted to a stop with the engine not turning over .... and then then it started up again with no problem, it could be a fuel delivery volume issue, like a float or needle, etc.

But if you slowed to a stop with the throttle closed and the engine in gear turning over .... but it didn't start to fire again as you finally chugged in gear with throttle at idle to a complete stop ....... then I'd think it's likely something else.

Well, I'd guess ignition in that case, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say where to start first w/o wasting a lot of money. Need to get some ideas from smarter people here on the forum

Did you check the valves?

Hauling ass downhill can cause an instant evap vapor lock if your evap tubes are still connected in the back off the tank. I wouldn't rule that out.

For ticking, the others are right on with their guesses. Valves are a common source of ticking noises.
