I'm going to cry.......piston slap or knocking?! video link.

Sparkplug worked itself out during a long ride, didn't notice till the engine nearly stalled, and a knock/rattle had developped. I'm guessing it overheated & now I'm getting piston slap.

Any ideas, I haven't looked at cylinder yet. Just looking for a little direction as far as what to look at first. There appears to be a tiny, tiny bit of play in the flywheel.

Ugh, pulled the head off and discovered this:

Are those piston ring pieces? Bearing? Looks like it's time to drain the oil & crack the case open.

Ouch, looks like you blew the piston up.

Dropping the engine & pulling the cylinder off tommarrow. Drained the oil & it was crystal clear, so it appears whatever happened is limited to the top end. Piston moves freely, cylinder walls really aren't scored much either. A little bit of good news I suppose..........At this point I think when the sparkplug worked itself out it damged the threads & a piece fell or got sucked into the cylinder....

From the looks of the pictures, you have chunks out of your piston. You'll need a top end rebuild.

Edit- and you don't need to drop the engine for that
