Modern Buddy

Just bought a 2009 Stella 150 2T, will start with kick start, no start with with electric starter. If I push starter button I can hear starter relay clicking, but starter doesn’t turn over. Tested starter, by putting 12 volts directly to motor, nothing. Ordered new starter motor, tested it, worked, installed and worked first day, no problem. Next day, pushed starter button, just clicking from relay, but starter wouldn’t turn over. Checked fuse, OK, checked battery, 13.2 volts, clutch switch works. I’m at a loss as to what to do next, any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Dennis

So, my 1012 Stella 4T is a hard starter as well. I just replaced the battery (again) this past week. I went with a plain lead/acid battery again this time.

I've noticed personally in most of my scooters, the batteries are "just enough" to get them started. Even with the new battery at 130cca, I have to bump it a couple of times before it spins over.

One test I did before replacing the battery was to put the charger on the bike on the 8A setting. With that little extra help it fired up, and so far the new battery is enough to do the same.

That battery form factor isn't the easiest to find, either. I was prepared to swap to lithium like I have in my other scoots, but for $60 I'll take this one for now. Batteries plus carries them.

But in every bike I have ever had, going with a lithium battery has solved many woes. I highly recommend them. You may have to incorporate a spacer because the stock battery is tall for a bike battery.
