mirrors adjustment

I would like to know how you guys adjust your mirrors. I can see cars behind me sort of with the left mirror. and right mirror on cars on the right lane. i feel that the mirrors are not extend to the sides enough because my arms keep blocking the view. like when i really need to see through my arms to see behind me.
