So I purchased a 4.25 foot Kryptonite New York Noose, and it works really well. The chain is very heavy, so I travel with it under the seat. I have wrapped the noose around gates, poles, parking meters, and anywhere else I can find a secure place to wrap it. I tighten the noose as much as possible. Then, following the suggestion of another MB-er, I put the U part of the lock around the top of my rear shock, put a chain link over it, and then secure the lock. The main key comes with a little LED light to help with locking or unlocking in poorly lit areas. I used this lock in a bunch of different places in my home town in central IL and in Chicago, and nobody touched my scooter. (But of course I also have insurance!)
Because of this chain’s weight, I wouldn’t use it every day. But it gives me some extra piece of mind when I’m on the road and need to leave my scooter outside overnight, or in a high/moderate crime area after dark. The noose design really makes this chain lock work like a typical chain that is much longer—well worth the money, in my opinion. If anybody else has this lock, I’d love to hear any other ideas for how to secure it to your scooter. The shock works well, but I’m also open to other thoughts!
