another stupid question...

does the fuel gauge have any "get fuel now!" lights? both times i've filled up because the gauge got what i considered close to the empty side, but each time i could barely fit 1 gallon in there. anyone run the fuel right out yet? if so, about how many BDU's did that take?

and if anyone has uploaded the user manual, i'd love to see it. i grabbed the maint pdf, but i am looking for the fun one with all the pidgin english in it.

No warning lights, but the most I've ever gotten in the tank is 1.4 gallons. You can ride with it pegged for a few miles, but I don't like to push it (figuratively and literally) Don't know if that helps...

I'll dig through my files later if no one has posted a link to the owner's manual.. the weather's too nice to sit here for more than a few more minutes.

The digital dash flashes the fuel level indicator when there is less than about 3/4 gallon left in the tank. In case anyone was interested...

The most I get is 1.3 or 1.4 gallons when on empty. You would be surprised how far the bike will run with tank completely empty. I can ride my Suzuki for probably five, ten miles with the take completely removed from the bike just from the fuel left in the carbs. I don't know if the Blur's fuel capacity includes the fuel down in the carbs or not.

I'm not sure how the fuel sensor works, but on most motorcycles and scooters, it's not very accurate and the amount left when it turns on varies from bike to bike. Obviously many factors affect your mileage too, so you'd never know for sure exactly how many miles you have left.

I think the Blur is supposed to hold 1.9 gallons, but I've also heard people say that it's really more like 1.7. I've never known if that fuel capacity includes fuel in the hose and carb...

On my old blur (standard console) when it hit the top of the "E" I could barely fit a gallon in there, so "E" wasn't much more than half-empty, I had at least 1/3 a tank.

I've got the digital dash on my second Blur now, and I haven't ridden enough to find out how accurate the warning light is.

On long rides through the country/burbs, I carry an extra fuel bottle (an MSR camping fuel canister) because I'd rather not stop every time I hit E so I tend to push my luck more (though I've only had to use it once, and I knew I was pushing it too far). In the city, I'm never far from a gas station, so I don't sweat it too much.

Anyway, the point is, you've got an awful lot of fuel left when you hit E.

Can't speak for the '07s, but the '06 has a sort of built-in reserve (not counting what's in the lines and carb bowl). If you've ever had the skins off, you'll notice an opaque "mini-tank" attached to the rear of the main. Basically, fuel is pumped from the main tank into the small one and is then gravity fed to the carb. I'm only guessing, but I'd say that there's about a pint or so in the small one, so even if you're bone dry on the main, there's probably enough left to get you a couple of miles or so.

I wonder how they determine fuel capacity. I would bet that if the Blur was totally out of gas, you could fit 1.9 gallons in it, including the fuel that would drain out of the tank down into the car bowl, lines, etc.

If you just filled up the tank, I think it would be more like 1 gallon.
