Is the Genuine "Touring Scooter" the G-Max 250
Just checking out this month's Twist and Go, which by the way you can now receive digitally from bn.com.
I noticed they are selling a PGO G-Max 250 in the UK. Looks like a Blur with a 250 engine in it. I wonder if this is the touring scooter spoken about on justgottascoot.com? I think this is a new model. I remember checking PGO's Web site back when I bought my Blur about 18 months ago and I don't remember seeing a 250cc version.

Are you sure it was new? The old GMax 250 had an entirely different engine that required a different frame and suspension (No center channel cutout w/shock). I hadn't heard anything about a new Blur 250 (though someone here mentioned a 220 or 230 a few weeks ago right?)
As I understand it (and I may not) the long-rumored Genuine "Touring Scooter" in the works is retro-japanese (60s Fuji Rabbit-ish?) styled I've never seen it, and I think very few people have. The engine is probably made by PGO and may be the same engine in the new (?) Blur 250, but it certainly doesn't sound like it'd be as simple as a rebadged Blur, and it's not the 4-stroke Stella, it's something new.
BTW, I saw a PGO I-ME last time I was over there and it didn't look nearly as good in person as it does in photos. I didn't ride it but they didn't seem impressed with the performance and handling, and it seems like there's not much interest in bringing it over. I'd sorta figured that'd eventually be the Blur replacement, but I guess not.
Of course I always ask about the Blur, and they always tell me "anything could happen." Fingers crossed.

There was a 250 G-Max version available when I bought my 125 some 3 years ago, but now it is not available in the U.K. probably because it's not that popular and the price. It had two visible rear shocks, that was the only difference apart from being 250cc of course.
ps. no kickstart also.
G-Max 250cc: Price $5000

From what I was able to gather when I ran across the GMax 250's before, they use a Kymco watercooled 250cc engine. Even with the dual rear shock (much better than a single peg-leg rear shock) I think it'd be a fun ride. Big engine in a small frame. Then again, it might seem too big for it's britches (frame).
I wouldn't kick it out of my garage.
No clue what Genuine's got planned, but this definitely wouldn't fall into the "Retro Tourer" style of scooter. It does make you wonder what they have in store... We might be seeing the engine from the GMax 250, though - which would be good, because it's at least familiar (not quite like the GY6) in that there's those familiar with it's quirks, qualms and tricks. Not to mention that there's already a number of aftermarket "stuff" available.

While I'd like to think it's an entirely new design for the US, chances are that it isn't. When PGO and Genuine are said to be working together, I would believe its similar to how American auto manufacturers work with Japanese auto companies. They modify an existing design - even possibly a new one to the Japanese market -- and change it up for an American one.jfrost2 wrote:It's said the new bike is 270cc and a new design PGO and Genuine are working on together to sell in the US market, it'll probably be sold in Taiwan over time too. But the new bike is nothing we've seen before.
To create a new scoot from the ground up solely for the American market sounds like a pretty risky business proposition. The 2006-2007 Blur sales alone are a good case example of how even an established overseas scooter has a hard time finding its base in the States.
My guess is that its a new design by PGO for any country they can sell it in. Genuine will modify some of its design to cater to American roads/needs.

This discussion reminds me that Phil spoke about this on his last "Just gotta Scoot" podcast.
http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/ta ... 296&cmd=tc
At minute 30 he spoke to the potential of the Blur coming back.
At minute 32 he spoke about a 270cc cruiser coming out in spring of 2010.
