Digital cluster installed and running!

Post by zuman »

Hail to the King of Blurs, Babblefish the First! The delivery was quick and the installation was painless (about 30 minutes) because of the awesome instructions which helped me avoid all those false starts I typically make on projects like this. Thanks, Wes!
The good news: I rode about two miles with my GPS attached to my Blur tonight and the new odometer matched within 1/10th mile.
The bad news: 25mph GPS=31 mph Blur; 35 mph GPS=43 mph Blur; 45mph GPS=55mph Blur.

So you got yours already? Nice! Did you get any kind of notice that it was on the way or did it just show up?

I haven't heard anything on mine yet, in fact I just sent the guy an email earlier to see if it's shipped out yet.

Congratulations and boo on the inaccurate speedometer! Bet it was a cool feeling powering it up for the first time!. I kinda thought it was reading fast because some of the speeds it was showing on familiar roads seemed strange. I'm wondering if there's some kind of adjustment inside to calibrate it. Maybe one day when I'm feeling frisky, I'll open it up and look. Another thing I thought of doing was going to a larger front tire (because the 120/60-13 is such a pain to find) which should slow down the speedo reading. Unfortunately, that would throw off the odometer reading...

Our supplier was having some family emergencies early last week, so some shipments may have been delayed a couple of days. He was back on track by the end of the week so you should be seeing yours soon.

OK cool :) Yeah I'm anxious.

I had planned on cracking it open before I closed everything up just to check things like light bulbs, maybe change the color of the backlight.

We'll see. :)

I got mine today and hooked it up. I would agree the odometer seems to be real close maybe a 10th off. The speedometer seems to be off more than I would like. I ran with my wife on her Buddy 125 and our speeds seemed to match, aprox 5 miles optimistick. I am going to take my gps out and try for more accurate reading. Its still a better locking cluster than the old one I would say and am happy for doing it. Thanks babblefish for leg work on this.

The supplier did keep good email contact with me, and I can confirm that he had problems with a typhoon and also a family health issue. He appears to be a class guy, and I'm sure you'll have no problem.

It was more me being really anxious to get a new toy :D

Got mine last week but only had a chance to install it today. Plus I was waiting for my windshield to show up...which it did yesterday (thank you Scooterville in MN). So I installed them both today. Both were pretty easy--thanks in large part to instructions posted here--with most delays coming from awkward screw holes and hard to fit together or take apart bits. But it's done now and I think it looks great. Now off I go to check them...

Installed mine last Saturday in about 30 minutes ... 8)

The odometer is spot on = excactly 22 miles from home 2 work = same as my MINI.

Went past a few electronic 'radar speed reminder' signs and also found the speedo to show about 5 mph faster than true speed, but I can live with that.

Easy to read in daylight, even for my eyes ... but looks best at night when you can see the orange backlighting.

Well worth the price of admission.

Comparing the dash speed with what my bicycle computer is telling me:

BMPH......Bike Computer
44............35
55............45
65............55

I had some other test points, but I forgot them...
I'll update as I remember...

Hi babblefish...

I really don't think mine is that optimistic. 10 mpg is a huge difference...

Perhaps the bike computer is a major pessimist?!

Not sure. I thought I read on one of these threads that someone compared their digital dash to a GPS and came up with the same readings as me. Maybe others will chime in here.

Thanks zuman, I knew I saw it somewhere, but forgot where. At least it's good to know that my bike computer is pretty accurate when compared to a GPS.

So...has anyone gotten a reaction from a Genuine dealer on seeing the digital dash in their Blur? Just curious.:D

I haven't ordered one yet, as I want to combine the stuff for shipping, but when I mentioned it to my dealer, her response was "Bad Ass!"

I think my dealer thinks I'm a nerd :D... but then when they're tinkering with Ducatis and Aprilias all day I could have dropped a 500cc motor in there and would have only gotten a slightly more enthusiastic response.

Showed my new 'cluster' to the famous scooter guru Seth @ Metro in Cincinnati and he really liked it and showed a lot of enthusiasm about the look, the fit and the fact that I actually did the work (thanks babblefish).

Post by fs8gbe »

sorry, i've done a search, but i can't seem to find where you all are getting the digital dashes from. looking at a couple of blurs soon and it is a very real possibility that after my 2 year wait i will finally be a member of the club, and this would likely be the first mod i perform on the scooter...

I've had a PM from babble fish and another person that both gave me the same guys e-mail who supposedly can buy these right from the PGO factory over in Tiwan and ship them here, but he's yet to answer any of my e-mail requests?

Anyone talked to him lately? last 2 months?

I would really like to add one of these to my Blur. Is there anyone else with the hookup on them? Too bad Genuine just couldn't import these as accessories! hehe.

Have you found another source for the digital dashes? You shouldn't keep that a secret, ya know...

cage,

I'm not trying to keep it secret, but I've never seen anyone post the info so I thought we were keeping it a PM exchange on the 1 source. I have 2 Emails for him, so my last message was simply sharing that info. If anyone wants the 2 emails I have, let me know or PM me and I'll forward it to you.

Yeah, he just gave me a 2nd e-mail address to the same guy and I haven't heard back from him on that one either.

At this point, even if I heard back from the guy that can get these, I'd be hesitant to even send him money just because he hasn't even begun to establish a regular path of communication.

I wish we had another avenue to explore, because I do really like the look of those.

Has the supply on these totally dried up? What were they costing when they were available from your source?
And I guess my obvious question is; can a person not simply order one from PGO?

Yeah, I kinda wish I had ordered one of those when I had a chance also.. the price was very fair, something just over $100 if I remember right.

I think someone mentioned that Scooterworks was contemplating distributing that part, but I guess not.

The supplier had a few misgivings with the forum in general. I'm fairly sure he doesn't respond to emails and such (from Genuine owners) now. It's kind of a bum situation, but we're all stuck with what we have for now.

The situation was... questionable (and validly so) but he didn't respond well, which made him seem untrustworthy. All-together, it could have come out 100 times more positively, but it didn't. I think he's severed his ties with us here (which kinda sucks). I can't blame him, though... I was pretty hot-headed in my younger days as well.

There's alternate sources, but last I checked, PGO didn't have any available to sell. I'll update if I find out otherwise.

If Genuine brings in the 220, they're stock on that, so they'd probably start stocking 'em.

IIRC, the guy can be found via ebay, I don't remember his name though. I'm still not sure what the issue was, but Eric claims to have had a good reason for banning him, aside from that, I've heard he's friendly and reliable enough.

I actually ended up with zuman's bike (who started this thread) and I love that speedo.
