alpinestars jackets and strange sizing

Post by blurblaine »

21 MAR 2010

i went to iron pony motorsports near columbus, ohio today ... wow, what a big store! they carry lots of everything and it could take hours to walk through the entire store.

i went there to try different sizes of alpinestars leather jackets because some are sized S, M, L, XL, XXL while others are sized like 48us/58euro and I wanted to see what fit me the best. I can't even begin to describe how frustrated I was to find that every single jacket fit differently. Not only from model to model, but even 2 of the same jacket were very different in tightness through the chest and at the bottom (yes, the side adjustments were in the same position). So different, that in one case a 46 fit and a 48 was too small ... in the same jacket. Same issue with a tight 'XL' and a loose 'L' in 2 other models.

i wanted to order a 'alpinestars stage jacket' online from motostrano.com, because of their great pricing (iron pony wouldn't match the price), but don't even know what size to order now after today's experience...

btw - iron pony has 6 or more 2-level aisles that are 20' long full of close out jackets from numerous manufacturers: leather, textile and mesh ... so if you are looking for gear, it would be worth the ride.

sorry, just had to vent...

I hate sizing discrepancies! I have an Alpinestars jacket as my summer jacket. It's one of the best fitting jackets I've tried on, but when I went to get a backup Alpinestars mesh jacket for that one, the same size fit very differently.

It's not just that brand either. That's one thing that local shops can't be beat on. You're lucky to be that close to a shop that has so much inventory!
