I think my tachometer is broken

Post by AL GRANDE »

Today (7/4/11), after about 1,200 total miles, my screwy tachometer may have broke. It's resting at the 11,000 mark and when the engine is on, it hovers between 11,000 and 11,500 - it doesn't go beyond 11,500 when I'm riding the Blur.

Now, ever since I bought my Blur, back in 03/31/11, the tachometer needle would read (+-) 300 rpms. But, lately during the tach sweep, when you turn the key to the "ON" position and the needle sweeps up to 12,000 then back to 0, the needle would land at 200 rpm mark, or a few times, it would lie in the negative area -200 or -300. Once or twice during the sweep it rested at the 10,000 rpm mark. When it would do that, I would turn the key to the "OFF" position, wait around 30 seconds, then turn the key back to the "ON" position, and the tach needle would sweep up to 12,000 then back down to 0.

The engine sounds normal, no surging or revving high. It's just that damn tachometer needle not being where its suppose to be! Anyway, I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow morning and have the mechanic look at it. Thank God, it's under warranty. I hope it won't take long to get a new tachometer from Genuine Scooters. I'll leave my Blur at the shop since I'm going on vacation for a week, so the timing isn't too bad.

I noticed that a few of the other Blur owners are experiencing the same problem with the tachometers. Maybe, we should all complain to Genuine Scooters and they can issue a recall on the tachometers.

Sound good? Let all Blur owners unite! so we can get new tachometers that work properly.
