Dead Battery Issue?

Post by bertodesu »

Hey peops. I live in SF and have had my Blur for almost a year, August 2007. This past weekend, after a few rough start-ups over a month or two, my Blur died. Es muerto. I called the Genuine Engine Road Side Assistance and the tow truck driver said it was dead battery. He gave me a jump and I drove it to SF Scooter Centre. I like those guys and trust them but they told me the battery only had a 30 day warranty but it could be a bigger problem than that.

Have you had an issue of a dead battery or the scooter not kicking over?

Hey Berto, welcome to the only Blur forum in the world - and quite possibly in the entire Universe. :D

Read through this thread, it should answer your battery questions: viewtopic.php?t=3259&highlight=battery

you may want to check your rectifier too..i had mine just recently replaced.

there are cases that the battery ended being flat rather being broken...[due to faulty rectifier]

have you tried recharging your old battery?

and buy brands that are well known...imarflex/yuasa/ gpx

Thanks for the repsonse. I just spoke to SF Scooter Centre and the owner explained that the bucket seat light is not turning off and is draining the battery. SFCC took out the bulb to the bucket seat light and the old battery still would hold a charge. They replaced the battery and my Skootz is working fine.

This seems to me like a Genuine Engine manufacturing issue. Do you think replacing the rectifier would solve this issue? I am picking up my Skootz right now and will mention the recitifier replacement.

In response to the viewtopic.php?t=3259&highlight=battery post, it seems we are all having this problem. So how does Genuine Engine fix this? My warranty is up in a month.

I don't know if they will fix it or whether or not there is a fix. Mine was fixed as I discribed in the thread, by disconnecting the relay module from the harness so the underseat light never turns on. I'm pretty sure it didn't stay on when the seat was closed because it would turn off on it's own after 60 seconds or so with the seat open. Anyway, I don't really need that light anyway and my battery stays charged now even after sitting unused for several weeks.

there two issues based on experience why the gmax always ended up with a flat battery

-the ubox light
-rectifier

what we did was to install a switch in between...

i had disabled my ubox light permanently[never there was a need for it]
