Argh. Rack bolts have fallen off!

Post by rassilon22 »

<rant mode on>
Apparently this just isn't my week. First I notice that my nice Givi case wan't stay shut properly (let alone pay attention to the lock). Then after I take the case off I discover that 2 of my rack nuts/bolts have fallen off and the other two are very loose.

:cry:
</rant>

I guess I'll be finding the appropriate sized replacement ones this weekend and talking to my dealer about the case when I get it serviced in 2-3 weekends.

Anybody else have anything like that happen?

my rack bolts fell off too. My dealer put on new ones and really wrenched them down. They've stayed since. They are not threadlock.

By the way. In an unrelated incident, my Givi topcase fell off the bike. No damage, hardly a scratch. I was impressed.

One day I noticed the nuts were loose, too. A scooter mechanic gave me the opinion that these racks are designed poorly for durability. I'm inclined to agree.

What I noticed after getting the M8.8x20 size bolts from Home Depot was that it didn't seem like enough of the bolt was going into the mounting location. Anybody think they should have used M8.8x25s instead?

Have you called Scooterworks? I'm sure they will work with you on this. I'd be surprised if they didn't just send you another set of bolts. (I'm assuming you're using the Genunie product (genuine Genuine product?). They could give you the spec for the bolts.

I know my mechanic had a question about the windshield he was installing on my Blur. He called the help line the mechanics have and they answered his question right away. I asked them how they were to deal with and he said Genuine was great!

Give them a call.

I've dropped them an email question about this. Thanks for the suggestion!

Will do! I got an oof from who it was addressed to. They're out on vacation this week, but I'll let everybody know what I find out.
