OK all you Blur riders, I've noticed a new sound while riding 2-up. It's like a vibration or metal rubbing (think fan blade touching a shroud) only when I accelerate from a stop and it quits failry quickly. If I back off the throttle and reapply it doesnt seem to happen. Our combined weight is approx. 320. The sound seems to be coming from in front of me but it's hard to pin point. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the suspension and the increased weight 2up.
Anyone else noticed anything similar??
I need to schedule the 500bdu first service so I'll have the shop check it out if no one has any other suggestions.
thanks
BB

Maybe the rear wheel rubbing on the fender? remember that as you accelerate and decelerate, the suspension takes up some of the force, so your rear wheel clearance would be smaller when you're accelerating, then free up as the frame catches up with the wheels.
Do you have new tires by any chance? perhaps straying from their weird spec size tires gives you too little clearance there.
if it's brushing once per rotation, maybe your wheel is bent or warped, or your tire is damaged? Hit any big potholes lately?

I experienced this tonight with my bride on the back. Don't know where it's coming from either. Anyways... I heard it too.

The noise that I heard has gotten worse over time. I've actually started to hear it riding solo after a few miles of warmup and was vibrating my whole front end. Only happens when accelerating 0 - 5 mph. Stops at about 5 mph.
Took it to the shop and they tightened up the front end and the noise disappeared... for a couple of weeks. Only to come back worse than before.
Anywho, took it into the shop this morning. They had to keep her over night
They are thinking it's a belt. I'll keep you updated.

Just got my scoot back today (after 10 days!) They tried a couple things. First they replaced the roller weights and belt. They found the there were some flat spots on the rollers, but did not solve the original issue.ssauer2004 wrote:Any update on this?
They ended up replacing the internal bearings. Bearings on the other side of the clutch. I'm not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV, so I'm sorry that I can't give more detail. Hopefully, somebody can help me out in explaining which bearings and where they are. So far, problem solved, though.
Interesting note though... Genuine was/is not going to warranty the roller weights because I have over 1000 miles and they treat those like brakes... that there is wear and tear. Well I have just over 1000 BDUs ('06 BDUs so around 600 miles). They are working on Geniune... trying to convince them that I only have around 600 miles. Anyways, that's beside the point.
