a little worried...

Post by fs8gbe »

so i hadn't started the blur in a while (wife just gave birth to twins and they are in the NICU. sadly, while the hospital is amazing, the parking lot does not allow two wheeled vehicles (grumble grumble)) and i tried to use the starter button and as i thought, it fired a second but didn't start.

i've never had a problem using my kick start so i fired that up but nothing. i kicked again and it went halfway, and kind of just slid the rest of the way down like there was no resistance. tried again and it just feels like whatever happens to make it work, half of it isn''t there, if that makes any sense (i'm a computer guy, not an engine guy)

so i tried the starter again but held it, and it did fire up. but it turned over a couple times, paused, turned over more and started. this process repeated itself in the parking lot of the grocery store.

it's almost due for the 6k tuneup so i will get it checked out then but man oh man am i a little nervous

the battery's dead, obvs, a trickle charger will fix the starting problem

The kickstarter doesn't really have resistance all through the kick, you just never noticed before because it started and you weren't thinking about it.

and the carb's probably clogged up from sitting. I wish these bikes had a fuel tap so you could easily run the gas out of the carb when it was going to sit for a while. (Or fuel injection, ha). Sometimes you can run that out with some gentle revving, but be careful when riding until you're sure it's running OK. If not, the dealer can clean the carb for you, that's what they do all day. 9 out of ten scooter problems are clogged carbs from sitting too long.
