I am not as familiar with scooter motors as I am 1980s 4-banger Japanese motorcycle engines.
What would be the best source to read up before I crack open the Blur's motor? I imagine the Blur's engine fairly universal.
Best book or manual

Aside from the Blur service manual and parts manual (PDFs in the reference section I think), there's definitely nothing specific about the Blur/GMax, or even PGOs in general.
This is probably the most closely targeted, though I'm sure it doesn't have anything G-Max specific at all:

though these might be good too:

It's not technically a GY6 engine, but it's very similar, and it shares much in common with most twist-n-goes out there.

More than anything I'm just curious what's in there.Lostmycage wrote:Just curious, what are you planning to do?
I do want to do some mods if I keep the Blur. Suggestions? I'd like about 5MPH more top end, but I hear that's hard to do. I thought I would start with an exhaust and a bore kit. I want to do some LED lighting, heated grips and more permanant GPS mount.
I want to price some of this out as I decide whether to 1) sell my Suzuki and my Blur and buy a new Vespa or 2) sell the Suzuki and buy a Stella. I'm reluctant to sell the Blur because I love it and I know I won't get much for it. If I go with option 2 I would plan to upgrade to a Vespa when I sell the Blur in in three years or so. I've got about $3k coming that I can put into a new bike. In addition to that I think between the Suzuki and the Blur I can raise an addition $3K, maybe more. I say that because around here I am fairly certain I could get $1K for the Suzuki. From what I've seen it might be hard to get more than $2K for the Blur. Even that might be dreaming.
I am torn between wanting a 2T Stella and a GTV, both of which probably won't be available new in two to three years.
If I remember right you have some mods you pulled off your bike to sell, right?

Are the Haynes manuals as detailed as Clymer motorcycle manuals? I can't say I was impressed with their manual for the BMW, though I have a generic 3 series manual, not model specific.illnoise wrote:Aside from the Blur service manual and parts manual (PDFs in the reference section I think), there's definitely nothing specific about the Blur/GMax, or even PGOs in general.

I'd say the Haynes and Clymers are pretty similar, the problem is the less specific model it's covering, the less specific it is. So I'd imagine these'd be fairly vague.
The old Haynes Vespa manual is good if you have the same model they used for the photos and instructions, then the farther away you get from that model, the less useful it is. I have a Clymer Honda CB Four book, and it's pretty good and covers all the models, but in less detail. So i imagine the generic "scooter" books are good for an overall picture of the bike, but they're obviously going to be very lacking in specifics about different makes and models.
