a sad day...

Post by fs8gbe »

well, i sold my blur yesterday

i hated to do it, but for the time being, it was a necessary choice. and hopefully i'll be able to pick up a 2016 blur when they arrive

i'll still be lurking around here, as i've done for the most part of the past 4 years.

i did want to say thanks so much for all the wonderful, insightful posts. i learned alot not only about my most awesome scooter but about how helpful and meaningful a group of people can be when as something as the blur rolls around.

take care guys... 8)

Thanks for the Blur

After putting 60,000 miles(not KM but not a perfect mile of course) on a 2004 TGB R9 over the last 5 years I've learned alot about GY6's. Mostly they break over little things like a piece of your carb slide breaking off and bouncing around or the 45 cent hardware key you should have replaced when changing the coil wears too big of a slot in a crank shaft(u will need a new crank) or even better the starter gear come apart and falls on the oil pump chain and mangles it. The worst though is when the oil starts slowly leaking and and you don't keep it full and not overfull of course. When I took that one apart the lucas stop leak still remained but the oil was gone. TGB's have a great motor and it carried me to GPS verified 72mph stock and 81(downhill tucked tight) with exhaust, bigger jets, and same as stock 11 gram SLIDERS, which last 3 times as long as rollers. However the rest of the bike is only slightly better than a chinese scoot.

Thats where the Blur wins hands down, the ride, handling, breaking, styling, even the nuts and bolts are of way better quality. Of course you guys already knew all that. I wasn't sure I had made the right decision buying it with 9900 BDU and can only pray it holds for a long time but even if I have to fix it i'm still way happier rolling down the road and thats the important thing. Oh and it has a oil filter? I didn't even know that but it makes think this thing can last. I have read some of the stories of damages and I wonder what octane they were running.

It's been 2 days close to 200 bdu's, I changed the oil last night it was low and i wish I could take it easy on these things but I can't, I will however leave the major hotrod upgrades to the TGB. I do wanna put 12 gram sliders in the Blur, i assume they have 11's stock like the TGB but maybe not. I like the heavier weights for increased mpg lower over all rpm and engine wear and better accel in the 40 to 60 range. Blur=stock TGB has the buddy 150 exhaust, foam air element in a stock airbox(just cut the paper out), larger main and secondary jets(111 stock on most was at 115 now at 120, have tried the 125 and just wasted gas. I forget the sizes of the other for now but will let anyone who's interested know just ask. thanks again for the Blur i'll keep you posted on how it does.

FYI 1/4 mile record on a scooter (168cc-2T) 11.9 seconds 104 mph. Not mine! Next for me converting the TGB to run on Propane, wish me luck.
