2006 Blur- Diagnostic Question

Hi all,
I've recently got into the world of scooter in June when I bought a used 2006 Genuine Blur. It currently has about 2300 miles on it and has run great. Recently, I've noticed a ticking noise whether it is idling or at higher speeds. It sounds similar to if you stuck a playing card into a fan. As I increase the throttle, the sound increases in frequency and loudness. The engine power seems to be normal and it idles fine.
I'm not really sure where to start in terms of figuring out the cause. I use the scooter daily for commuting and I'm concerned I may be hurting the engine. I wanted to check in with this forum before bringing it to a dealer- given it is about an hour away.
