No Maxxis for 2009

Just read that Maxxis discontinued all their street-use motorcyle tires for 2009, they're only making off-road tires now.

I've never seen the Blur OEM Maxxis tires for sale anywhere anyway, and there are arguably better-quality replacements, so it's no big deal, really, but if you really love your stock tires, you might want to try to track some spares down before they're all gone. I'm still unclear on whether dealers and/or Genuine ever stocked them, or if they've been using a different replacement tires all along anyway. Have any of us even replaced our tires yet? I'm not even close.

Genuine no longer carries them due to them being discontinued. They had a limited supply and couldnt sell them all. Not sure what they'll do for internationals when they are 100% out of maxxis tires, they better not use those cheap shinkos with tubes.

Some sites still sell the tires, but I think finding a alternative is better.

With tires you always hear stuff like "Brand X and Brand Y are actually made at the same factory by Manufacturer Z" so it might just be a matter of Maxxis' parent company shuffling lines between brands. Maybe the exact same tires will show up with a different brand name. But those Blur-size ones seemed pretty rare to begin with, I've always wondered if they were custom-made for PGO.

Again, no cause for a freak-out, there are plenty of good tires that fit. I'm just a nerd about this stuff and curious.

As far as the Buddys, I always heard the Shinkos were pretty good, but yeah, tubeless is nice.

This is too bad- a lot of us on the 07 Italias were hoping to upgrade to those Maxxis ww's.

The Shinkos aren't great, but they aren't horrible either. But I'd say they are the least confidence-inspiring part of my Buddy. If I get leaned over in a turn too far they don't stick too well.

You could try finding the Maxxis tire under their parent company name: "Cheng Shin". The rear tire on my Blur is a Maxxis tire, but has the Cheng Shin brand name on it. More info can be found on this thread: viewtopic.php?t=7914&highlight=maxxis

I'm sure it is still produced, but under the Chen shin or another "company" name, just not for maxxis since they now make off road only tires. My dad's does say maxxis on the sides, but you never know, you might find a source selling them as maxxis, but on arrival, it says some other name.

Yeah, my front tire says "Maxxis" and the rear "Cheng Shin". They both have the Cheng Shin trade mark moulded into the sidewall.
