Dumb Rattler/Rough House questions

Post by Scalpel »

I ride a Rattler, but I suspect that most of the answers for these questions will apply equally to the Rough House.

1. Is there a headlight upgrade for the Rattler? I need more lumens!

2. Does anyone make a front rack for the Rattler? After the thread with the custom-made ones feel through, I couldn't find anyone else making a front rack.

3. What is that short bar across the handlebars? It's like a tapered reinforcement bar, that stretches across the middle section of the bars. Is it necessary, or just for show?

4. Is there an easy way to adjust the back shock? The adjustment ring is too big for the wrenches I own.

5. Where's the spark plug?

Okay, that's enough of my stupid questions... for now.

  1. You should be able to replace the headlight bulb, just watch the wattage. The bulb is 12V 35/35W, although I'm not certain which base it uses. There are some "high output" bulbs out there - just be careful that they truly are brighter for the same wattage and not brighter because they are 65/65W bulbs. (12V 65/65W is common for cars.)
  2. I do not know of a front rack that will fit the Rattler. If you find one, please let me know!
  3. That short bar is really just for show. Looks pretty cool, don't it?
  4. I don't know how to adjust the shock. I don't recall that it is adjustable, but I don't have a Rattler in the shop right now to check and make sure.
  5. The spark plug is in the usual place at the front end of the cylinder. Start by taking the seat/bucket assembly off, and then follow the spark plug wire from the coil to the top of the cylinder. It's kinda buried inside the cooling cowl, but you can simply pull the the cap (with the wire) off the end of the spark plug and then work a plug socket in there to remove the plug. (I'm certain my mechanic has a trick for easier access to it, but he's not here right now so you'll have to suffer with MY answers.)
Anything else I can help you with?

Rattler 50 or 110? That will make a difference in the headlight. If it's the 110 PIAA makes a direct replacement HS1 bulb that's brighter and still a 35W/35W bulb. The back shock is adjustable for preload on the spring for the 110 too. There are shock specific wrenches you can get, or use some large channel lock style pliers, they will work too.

Thanks for all the answers! I saved the dumbest question for last:

What tire kit should I get? Is the Rattler tubeless, or tubed?

Not the dumbest. Just the last (for now). The only dumb question is the one left unasked.
