Dr Pully Sliders for Rattler

Post by Major Redneck »

I put on the 9gm sliders from Dr Pully SWEET!!! no more jurking on take off much smother all around fell... Also rpm is lower as in going 40mph the rpm is not as high,,, topend is about the same as with the rollers but seems to be stronger on a hill at holding speed...

Well worth the 47bucks to have them brought to the door,,, and the 15 mins to change them out... Now with 4200 miles its time new tires...

I would like to meet this Dr. Pully...

What did you old ones look like when you took them out?

What did the ramps on the variator look like?

How much do you weigh?

The rollers i took out were flat spoted not bad but they only have 1000 miles on this set.... The ramps on the variator SUCK!!! there is a small hump on 4 of the channels were the roller/sliders go... I need a new variator but am too cheap at this time to dish out the money for an new one...

How much do i weigh? I weigh in at 162lbs there abouts... At Thanksgiving 08 I weighed in at 203lbs... Im sitting here itching to go ride but the weather is wet...

The stock variator ramps can use some polishing & notching, however other than that IMO the stock variator does not "suck".

I ran 9g DP sliders in mine & could not tell a significant difference from the OEM 8.5g rollers in the lightly polished & notched OEM variator.

I went to all 9g DP sliders, & from my perspective they are 2/10ths to 3/10ths of a gram too heavy for my preference. Maybe I'll lighten them up a bit and try again. The 7 & 9G combo that I was running was a bit too light.

I took it out today and opened it up going uphill did 50-52mph indicated... Coming down the same hill was 55-57mph... i can see its not as fast as the stock rollers but takeoff and power nice,,, 45mph sweet,,, alot less noise and viberation...

The Genuine tech suggest that i was into big bucks 400ish on getting a DrPully clutch and a new variator then add in another belt closer to 500...

The stock one i guess could be polished down on the high spots which might help,,, I did notice even after the new sliders that sometimes on take off you could fell it bitting at slow takeoff... anyway i guess ill give up a few mph on topend just to have less noise and smother running... At close to 50bucks a set im just going to wonder what other weights would run like... unless someone wants to donate a set???

ONe question if you know... Once your getting to higher rpm and speed do the sliders rollers move back twards the center of the variator???

The DP 9g sliders get to 30MPH pretty quick & cruise nicely in the 40's on my bike (95 main jet, snorkle & foam pulled from airbox, V8 pipe).

The weights should stay pretty much at the outer edge of the variator at high speed in order for the CVT to maintain the gear ratio necessary to maintain speed. A little bit of slider/roller weight differene can result in remarkable performance changes, though.

It is a fine dance among the variator weights, variator dimensions, & torque spring pressure. With a stock torque spring IMO the viable slider weight range is in the neighborhood of 7.5 - 9.5g (optimally 8 - 9g per my experience) depending upon what one wants to achieve.

I put a DP clutch on mine & it was not PnP; approx. 2mm+ needed to be ground off the inside of the shaft boss on the DP bell. I paid $250 delivered for the clutch, & I'm not sure that in the end it was worth it for this application.

Keep in mind that the DP variator uses 15x12 sliders & not the 16x13 on the OEM Rat variator. I think you would be better off polishing the ramps & prongs on your stock variator.

The first day i met him i asked him about the sliders and he told me first thing that they were not the same size as the aftermarket variator,,, that is why i waited for him to call me with the price of a new one,,, i ordered the sliders for the stock,,, anymore parts are going to have to wait for a while i need new tires and a can of soup....

Iv found a set at scooterworks that will work (tires) but not too much up on that brand of tire... wish i could match up a pair of Maxxis i'll be looking into it soon... any advise in this department would be helpful as well...
