Full engine swap: feasible or foolish?

Post by Scalpel »

I've been thinking about what to try next on my Rattler, and was noticing the full engine assemblies on ScooterWorks. Would it be feasible to take the Rattler's 110 engine off the bike, and replace it with this 150cc replacement engine and crankcase? Is the idea absurd, or just crazy enough to work?

anything is possible with enough time and money

Does the new engine come with a carb and exhaust?

The mounting is going to be the hard part

It would change it from two stroke to four, if that matters. But the 150 gy6 has more aftermarket parts to experiment with.

It isn't any better an idea on this forum than it is on the other one

The smart money says if you want more power, speed, or quickness either hop it up or trade it for something else.

Given enough time, however, MR may develop a hydrogen power pack for it

Nothing (or everything) is foolish. Even though the aftermarket is finally starting to appear for the Rattler and you can get some serious power out of the stock engine, I would never discourage anyone from engine swaps.

You will probably have to do some fabricating, metalwork and welding but if you are capable, or have the means to pay for someone to do it or have a buddy that is good with a welder anything can be done.

I love it when creative people do crazy mods to their vehicles. I hear people say, why would you do that? You could have bought an brand XYZ for cheaper. Well, it aint your handiwork! The pride in building something cannot be measured in mere dollars and cents.

If you decide to take it on, PLEASE take pictures and document the process. Take some measurements before you start the whole deal, you might be pleasantly surprised to find out it is easier than we think. (doubtful.... these kind of projects usually end up being more work than anticipated, but u never know!)

Gy6 swap is very common with the Ruckus. There are many engine brackets made just for the conversion. People also adapt the brackets for other installs, like a 150 Metropolitan swap. Check these links.

It would be cool to see some good swaps and extensions. If there is enough demand, someone is going to make the parts you want. Someone just needs to get the ball rolling.
