Fuel to air ratio

Post by carlosfm »

Hello i have been searching the boards with no clear explanations. Since the winter started i am having an issue with keeping the motor idling. I have read that it has to do with the fuel to air ratio but i am unclear as to were i find this screw and how to adjust it. Once i find the screw are the adjustments drastic or very subtle? Any help would be appreciated!

The adjustments are subtle, 1/4 to 1/2 turn makes all the difference. If it's your first time take a minute and check out the technical manual online. You're going to remove the pet carrier and look down on the carb. There is a black knob (idle adjustment) and right next to it is a brass screw. Depending on the year it's either a "d" shaped adjustment or a slotted screw. That's your air adjustment. Follow the setup instructions in the shop manual and you should have no problems.
