New Rattler 50 Owner

Post by brianwheelies »

Hi folks. Just bought an 06 Rattler 50 that was left over in Utah. I think they have ridden it a little bit. The gauges do not work and the battery died already(picked it up 2 days ago and battery was done by the time I got it home. Hopefully it is just a dead battery and not charging system.

It is fun to ride so far. Hope it stays reliable.

Does anyone know if oil injector works with a dead battery? When I would ride the bike the gauge would turn on when I hit the front brake and the oil light would come on.

Kind of worries me that the bike may run without getting oil and have a premature seizure.

The oil light is for low oil level in the oil tank. The oil pump it self is driven mechanically. No worries, just replace the battery.

I am at Minneapolis airport for a few hours. Random that you would reply while I am here.

I charged the battery last night and it all worked as normal when I put it back in this morning. Won't be able to test for a couple of days.

I get back from a trip today and the battery has held its charge. Found out why it was having problems to begin with though, sort of.

The front brake line is making contact with a hot wire. I just hopped on to go for a ride and the bike began smoking. I thought it was just new packing oils burning off. Started smoking more and smelling bad and I shut it off. Went to grab front brake and no pressure. Took bike to garage and looked at the line and it is singed brown and black. I am lucky the thing didn't catch on fire. Looks like my next day off will be returning the rattler and getting my money back.

Such a joke.

Dude, you bought a used bike, with a problem. I highly doubt it's the bikes fault.

If that's true, you got a 2 year warranty. Make um fix it.

It is an 06' though. So kinda new. How many miles? That sounds like a pretty freak thing just have the shop make it right. What wire was it touching and how was it exposed anyway? If the shop (or anyone ) tried to upgrade the horn or modify the lights. Only the hot to the ignition is left. Dunno, sounds random. Just make them fix it. The good thing with the shop selling new is the warranty.

I am going to get them to fix it. It was a left over but it has burned 2 dash units out. They don't know actual mileage but said less than 10. Sold as new with 2 year warranty.

Something is touching the brake line that is burning the dash and subsequently melted the brake line.

Once these issues are ironed out it should be a blast.

Maybe all of the lights will be brighter too.

I do hope you can get it sorted out. But I do understand that multiple problems happening multiple times, shouldn't be your problem. Keep us posted.

Finally dropped off the Rattler to the dealer in Las Vegas. Hopefully all goes well but it will be at least two weeks before I get it back. Looks like a month without a brand new bike. Good thing work keeps me busy but I am having two wheeled withdrawals.

Finally got the Rattler back. Runs good and everything works except for the gauges. The dealer I bought it from is supposed to send a new one.

Time to mod!

The dealer I bought the bike from followed through on the new gauges and also sent me a turn signal for the one that was broken when I got my bike. It is now fully operational. Just need to do a few mods and I think that will be it. Just a fun run around bike.
