Break-in
OK, how gentle have you REALLY been during break in? I took mine, with 20 miles on the clock, on a 40 mile ride through some twisty, hilly areas, and a couple of times, thought it might be beneficial to pick-up the Rattler under my arm ( as if ) and carry it up a couple of the hills, to save time. I did about 12 mph up and didn't want to strain the engine....but man, you gotta ride it!
It's loosening up nicely, but whats the general break-in consensus here? How robust do we expect it to be?

Just ride it. Don't hold it wide open for great lengths and try to vary the throttle position. The worse thing that you can do is to ride WOT for mile upon mile.
I was thinking the same thing about the hills, but was reassured that it'll be fine.
I'm off to the dealer in a few minutes. I'll see if they have any more input.

500 miles
Have now 500 miles on the Rattler and it's running better and stronger than ever! My ONLY gripe is the squeaky rear brake...otherwise! Way good. Who has more than 500 on theirs? Bueller? ??

I'm on a 110, so can't answer your question regarding the 50, but typically 50cc scooters like Ruckus'. and Zumas, ET-2 etc. top out in the low 40's.afriendofcheese wrote:Now that your Rattler is broken in, what top speeds have you been getting?
Just wondering what I'll be able to get out of this (de-restricted) 50cc once I put some miles on it.

My black cat
I weigh 190lbs.
My derestricted black cat does 52-53 mph on the flats.
I'm gonna get a pipe on it and hope to hit 60 mph.
If your scoot is a 4 stroke 50cc then low 40's is what you can expect.
If you do have a 4 stroke there is only one way to break in an engine. This way makes sense and the logic is sound. Most people think the dealer or the manufacturer will know better than anyone else. Fact is, mechanics understand best. I've taken apart many engines and understand them well. This method of breaking in an engine is the only method that makes perfect sense and has perfect results every time. It's all about your seals when breaking in an engine.

new leftover 2009 Rattler 110; owned 5 days with @ 175 miles on it; I've tried to 'baby it' with just a few jaunts above 50 mph & 1 or 2 WOT short runs; weather's getting cold 'round here so it goes in for its 200 mile gear oil change in 2 days (also seems I got a stuck fuel sending unit so the dealer gets it for a warranty repair) and then gets 'winterized'
hopefully we will get some mild weather bouts so I can run the scoots ovet the winter
