Rattler owners, who oils their filter foam?

Post by brianwheelies »

When I got my bike from the dealer the filter foam was not oiled. I actually ran with the foam out for a while as I ride street only. I have since reinstalled the foam and it quiets down the intake noise and softens the power.

Do you guys oil that foam to block particle and airflow further?

I find it to be an odd setup to have both paper and foam.

Edit: just consulted the manual. Oil is required.

If you're talking about the small foam panel in the OEM factory airbox that is a pre-filter. I personally would pull it & run without, the paper element will filter just fine without the foam.

I did and my bike ran it's quickest that way. The manual does say that the foam is the filter and that it needs to be cleaned and oiled periodically.

Just oiled it with some injector oil.

A nice large filter that was reusable and quiet would be the ticket though. I don't like the idea of noise and an open filter.

I modified the airbox to accept a larger Uni foam flat panel filter. It was quieter than a pod & gave about 95% of the performance of a good Uni pod.
