RH 50 belt size and roller weights?

Post by sugonaut »

Hi, I'm hoping someone can tell me the size of the CVT belt on the '08 Roughhouse 50. Also, the stock weight of the rollers? And for the bonus round... has anyone tried sliders (ex. Dr. Pulley) rather than rollers?

From Scooterworks: "Stock rollers for Rattler 50 are 11.5g, and stock for Black Cat and Buddy 50 are 7.5-8.5g." I should've weighed my stock ones before I took them out.

In my opinion, if you are thinking about replacing your rollers, don't bother trying anything that is 10g or higher unless you have a really fat contra spring. I tried 10g's the other day, and it took me about 30 seconds to get up to 40mph, and that's underestimating! The plus side is it got up to something over 60 indicated, but it was definitely not worth it. I don't even know what's in there now. The mechanic has changed my rollers so many times I've lost count. Apparently he likes experimenting on my Roughhouse, which is fine because I get parts for cheap and he doesn't charge for labor when he wants to "try" things like rollers.

I know this is going to sound ignorant, but...

Are the Buddy or Blackcat parts usually compatible with the Roughhouse?

I've read/heard/learned the RH is just a Black Cat with new paint and stickers. I'm going to assume (yep, assume) the rollers are 7.5-8.5g's (thanks Mrs.Spaceman). So I'll start my experiment from there.

[Side note] - Those goofy parental warnings on the Black Cat are also found on the packaging of firecrackers by the same name. Go buy some Black Cat firecrackers (if your local government allows you to) and you'll understand where PGO was coming from. It's a lame joke, I know. But it's kinda funny once you get the full story. Unfortunately the joke dies when Genuine re-brands the BC to Roughhouse. Doh!

For Scalpel - the Buddy 50 and Roughhouse 50 share the same engine design (Minarelli horizontal), but not the same engine (sourced from 2 different manufacturers).

I've had the luxury to ride both an '08 stock Buddy 50 and an '08 stock RH 50 with approx. the same miles. Both deristricted. The RH is much quicker and faster. That's why I bought it. Otherwise I'd be riding a Bud for the retro stylin'. I am convinced the engine and/or transmission are not compatible. Maybe I'm too skeptical... but I rode a Chinese frankenscoot for too long before this Genuine.

I'll suck it up and pull the cover off the CVT this weekend. I'll report the belt size here once I get to it.

Thanks for your responses!
