19 Days and Rattler Stoped
I bought a 2009 Rattle buckten (3 miles) and it never ran right from the moment i start it up at the shop i bought it from. After 20 time of trying to leave the parking lot i walked back in to the salesman and told him it would not stay running. He walked out to the scooter and we started it as soon as you give it gas it would shut down. He said oh its on the kickstand it has to be off the kickstand for the engine to run faster. After about 5 times of it dieing with him he manage to take off hard from start to go. On the way home 30 miles the bike cut off every time i would stop and take off. Once at home i addjusted the airmixture and it smoothed out. The next day i get on the bike and start it, take off and about after 15 mins of riding it shut off at about 40 mph and when it shut down it comes to a vary fast stop. Hit the start and if fired right up but ran a little ruff for about 3 min, backfiring and very low power till i got up to speed of about 40 mph. A week after that my daughter and i were riding the bike out of town when it did the same thing, but this time it would not start. The roadside service worked well but the bike has been in the shop now going on 3 weeks,,, Longer than i had the bike. There saying its the oilpump. Im not too sure about this because of the way it shut down. If it was Too much oil as there saying would it not run very bad till it just shut down.
I can tell you this im a very unhappy camper at this point. To save my money for two years and pay $3500 cash (rack and box also) for this bike to sit in the shop is bull#*$)

That's a new one on me.Major Redneck wrote:He said oh its on the kickstand it has to be off the kickstand for the engine to run faster.
It actually can exhibit these kinds of symptoms if the oil backs up.
I'm wondering if they screwed something up when prepping the scoot for delivery. Can't really say, and I don;t want to immediately blame the dealer. These things are impossible to diagnose online and there are a few things that can cause that behavior. (Also, not as familiar with 2-stroke 110s.) Still, keep us posted on what happens with this.
My advice to anyone else: If it doesn't run right the second you get it, take it back to the dealer ASAP. Don't make any adjustments yourself. It should run well from the second they give it to you.

You didn't mention how much gas was in the scoot when it happened. Air/fuel mixture is one possibility. The fuel overflowing down the vent tube and causing a "vapor lock" style situation has also happened to a lot of people. The overflow can happen from heat expansion of your fuel too. Hope your shop finds the real culprit and soon.

Nice day for a scooter ride so i took my TGB 50cc with 24,000+ miles the 30mile(oneway) trip to the bike shop. The service manager said he was having problems with getting Genuine to return his daily calls for help. This is not a small shop http://www.extrememotorcycles.com/ and im sure there trying to and want to give me the service that is due. He also said that he had a Roughhouse with the same problem. I also told him that he was half way into the Lemon Law here in NC. http://www.nclemonlaw.com/what_is.htm I remained calm and told him that it has now been broken down longer than it was running, and running poor at that. He seems to think its the oil pump putting too much oil in the carb. With the way it shut down im not thinking this is going to be the problem, who knows? I also just paid the $45 insurance bill for the scooter today as well. Was that wasted money or what?

Re: 19 Days and Rattler Stoped
I just picked mine up on Wednesday and I can tell you that the "dealer prep" where I got mine involved adding gas, gear oil, and 2 cycle oil. They come crated-up and damn near ready to go.ericalm wrote: I'm wondering if they screwed something up when prepping the scoot for delivery.
All that being said, mine would start right up and seemingly run fine until the auto-choke turned off. Then it would die if I came to a stop, or it would idle real low and then die when I gave it gas. These are both symptoms of running to lean. Upon inspection of the "air/fuel mixture" screw I was correct. After a quick adjustment my Rattler 110 runs just great. (Turning clockwise will richen the mixture)
The adjustment screw is just to the left of the idle adjustment screw if your looking at the idle screw straight on. It is a small "D" shaped screw post. Chances are that it will have some sort of "wax" looking stuff on there. I'm not sure if this is to keep it from moving, or to tell if it has been tampered with it. You can turn it with a small needle nose pliers if you have to. Or else you can make or order the tool for it.
http://www.scooterwest.com/item_detail/ ... ture/2071/
These motors come set up very lean from the factory to meet emissions standards. Temperature and altitude can make huge differences on how small engine carburetors run.
The correct adjustment procedure is to let the bike get up to normal operating temperature. Then screw the air/fuel screw clockwise until you hear the idle start to get rough or even die. Then back the screw off until it smooths out. You will find a sweet spot. If you back it out too far it will then idle rough and possibly die as well.
Make small and slow adjustments so that you can hear the changes in idling. If you rev the engine up and it seems to "hang" at a high rpm before dropping back to idle, you can back off the Idle adjusting screw a small bit. Make small changes in this as well.
Wow, that kind of turned into a wall of text. And I apologize if this has already been posted before.

i also agree mostly with Readonly post its best to idle up the engine first to avoid stalling as you adjust ,,, on a two stroke find the "Gallup" or what he said the sweetspot best way to discribe the gallup is smooth with a burp or pop/skip "Gallup" sound after 5 or so sec. im going to refur you to another post at what i thought "WAS" the place to get help but i see this has mostly the same people there that has bleeded over from here... more minds have more ideas... http://www.genuinerattler.com/forum/vie ... ?f=3&t=203 as well as this post http://www.genuinerattler.com/forum/vie ... f=10&t=157 im well tooled at two strokes for iv have had many everything from the Kawasaki 500 MK III to Yamaha 360 as well as 125's 175's 250's Huskie's Bultoco's too many to keep up with or name, but maybe you get the idea...
at this point its a problem with ether the dealer or Genuine with getting it fixed... but to have had the bike for two weeks and broken down for three weeks and no idea per repair manager as to when it will get fixed forgive me for being a little bitter...
hell theres no question in my mind that i can fix it... replace the most likely part till its fixed,,, been there done that many times with many things... maybe the idea of the oilpump is it... but when is it going to happen??? am i to keep waiting for weeks,,, with no hope of when??? im under the impression from the repair manager he is not able to get someone to return his calls to order one... No this is not right i bought a bike to ride... i understand now why this state has a lemon law... Please understand I paided CASH and only had it running pooly for two weeks,,,this really sucks...

I had a similar problem and had to play with the air/fuel screw to find that sweet spot. Taking the seat out is a P.I.T.A., and on my posting "Rattler Engine Problem Again" someone had a great suggestion - drilling a hole in the bottom of the seat compartment to get a screwdriver through for easier access for adjusting. And yes, climate conditions are a huge factor. This is a great forum with a great bunch of people, and all of my problems were solved here. As for dealers that carry the Rattler or any 2-stroke, we all know they want to make a sale, but for people who are not 2-stroke savvy, they should ask that, as well as mention something about the tempermental nature of them.[/i]

Well Lady's and Gent I dont know what to do at this point its been in the shop 5 weeks... I really wanted a Rattle BuckTen... The NC state Att. Gen. is sending some papers for me to fillout,,, i do not know what the outcome will be... I can not wait and wait,,, time is important... Im sure the bike can be fixed,,, but just what is the problem??? Is it Technical Support from Genuine??? Or is it just the place i bought it from??? Last week I mail a letter and called Genuine half a doz. times and left a message for them to please return my call... Nothing... Any advice at this point short of court??? If I am to take advantage of the lemon law in NC I do have to act within a time limit... It has reach that point ether take action or keep the bike that sits in the shop...

Have you gone to the shop personally to try and address the issue? Maybe you can get things done more with your actual presence than a phone call in this matter. You have every right to be ticked off at this point. I would think warranty through Genuine has to apply here as well to get the Rat up and running ESPECIALLY for as long as you've had it. If you do go to the shop, I wouldn't bring up your last-resort intentions, but if you can get a face-to-face answer on when you'll get it back, exactly what they have to do to get it up and running that may push them harder to get it done.

All customer service, including warranty claims should be handled by the dealer. The dealers are the ones who have access to Genuine. This is the way it has to be; Genuine is still a small company and doesn't have the capacity to deal with these things individually. At the same time, they can't watch over the backs of all their dealers but should know when something like this is being handled poorly. Maybe there should be some sort of formal way to communicate these problems to the company and alert them of potential issues with a dealer.
That's not to say that everything is the dealer's fault and I can't speak to what's happening in your case. That's just the ideal way for handling these issues.
For owners, it's often hard to know who's responsible when these things occur. But, at the very least, dealers should be open in their communications with owners and should be able to give them an accurate status update at any time and tell owners how they plan to address and resolve an issue.

The fact he said it needs to start on the center stand to run faster shows this guy isnt too qualified to work on bikes. Even a non mechanic will know center of side stand it in no way would effect engine performance. Some motorcycles and scooters do actually have a mechanism where the bike wont run at all if the side stand is down, but PGO doesnt have this in their bikes.
My guess is somewhere from the factory during transportation, something got out tune, and when the bike was uncrated at the dealer, he probably didnt prep it right.

As of today still in the shop, not fixed, service manager fired/quit. Lady that owns the place has called me weekly to keep me informed. She said the oil pump was not working and that the rings were toast. I can say this oil was going somewhere cuz iv added a .qt/half of oil. Parts are on order per. Lady. Keeping the Faith but unhappy.

Today i went to picked up my Rattler after having new piston, rings and oilpump put in. Started right up ran so good, i had a big smile on my face. As i said goodbye to the people i took off on my trip home. Ran so smooth till i stopped. It shut off and would not start. After 30min.s of trying to start it i called the shop back to tell them the news. They sent a truck out to pick up the bike and bring me home. Sad, and Unhappy, new engine with 3 miles. The man that worked on it and picked me up tryed to start it and scratched his head. He said it ran sweet before, and i agreed. Keep the Faith is all i can say.

I dont think its just a plug or lose connection,,, It shut off when i got to the first redlight that i had to stop. It had shut down and locked up. If the oil pump was not working the first time that means oil was not getting to the bearings they would have been damaged as well. A little oil was added to the gas just as good messure he said. Lets put it this way it was smoking hot when i got off. Other than that It looks like back to square one... Im begining to wonder if i was ment to have a Rattler Buck Ten...

dying 110
It sounds to me like you need to clean out the carb. If a two stroke is running lean it will overheat and seize the piston. The fuel is what keeps the piston cool. That is very common, especially on a bike that has been sitting for a long time so the fuel forms a film on the inside diameter of the jets. You need to remove the jets and scrub them out with a wire to get the scum out. Shooting it with carb cleaner, or compressed air is what most shops do, and that will not remove the problem. The air screw should be set at 1 1/2 trns out if everything is correct. the 110 is a great bike, I think your problem is that a lot of shops do not realize how the jets are borderline lean already, and the tiny amount of film in the hole will push it over the edge...........

I've found in life that its best to take it easy, maybe its a Karma i have found in my older age. In a nutshell being nice and trying to understand will gets things done like it should be. If i would walk in with a pissed off attiutued showing my pissed offness, how do you think the work on my bike would end? If one is kind at a point where others are to service them the service well be much more plesant. I dont think that the shop is at fault as much as Genuine at this point. I read hear all the time of the problem/problems that the 110 has vaperlocking, shuting off at idle, just to name a few. Yes there are tweeks, aftermarket stuff one can do to improve the 110. But i have not really had the chance to do this. I only had the bike 3 weeks, the shop has now had it 8 weeks. The bike is bunt up. Trust me Ive had one do this before. NO OIL WAS BEING SENT IN A 2 CYCLE ENGINE was what they said caused this. They only replaced the topend not the lower end. Trying to save a buck (here is the understanding part been there done that) and the engine not locked up the first time the lowend was not even looked at (im guessing, I would not have looked). Once the engine got HOT (not warm from idle for 5-10. Once the bearings start turning at 6-7 rounds per min. (RPM) they get very very HOT. With damage done the first time once hot they swelled up like your Dad at Grannys for Thanksgiving. In my gut i feel this is a FRIDAY bike. One made on Friday in a rush to go home or whatever. (been there done that as well) Who knows at this point? Yes im unhappy but at this point with me I would like ether a NEW BIKE! or my MONEY! back. I well not accept it. I wanted a New bike to take good care of like the others I have (they sleep/stay in the house) not pay $3,500 for one that has been rebuilt. Three weeks for a new product to end up being a rebuilt product is not acceptable. Would you?Ray Knobs wrote:that doesn't sound good. i don't know how your taking this so well i would be pissed

Re: dying 110
I did before i took it to the shop. My 50's carb's get clogged every so offten. The best wire iv found is one small wire from a speakerwire. The hole is so small that is the only thing iv found to go throw it. The holes on the 50s are smaller than the one on the rattler. It does not take much to clogg it with any tiny speck of trash. After having to do this on my 50's a few times i now buy my fuel (BP 93octain whitegas) in a five gal. can, and i filter it throw before it goes into the tank. White gas in a small engine is a time and money saver in the long run. You do not get that reddish-brown varnish buildup in the carb from sitting.scootertherapy wrote:It sounds to me like you need to clean out the carb. I didn't realize that the engine siezed. I suggest checking with your state's Attorney General's Office, there may be a lemmon law that applies to your situation. Genuine Scooters should step up & take care of this under warranty. The AG's office of consumer protection should help to facilitate that, if necessary. Genuine owes you a fair & prompt resolution.

I am frustrated just reading about it. Most people buy a new bike to avoid having to deal with problems and you have gotten nothing but with this one.
I bought mine used with low miles and upgrades for 2K. Run's like a clock. Think of all the time you could have spent enjoying your scooter instead of stressing out over this BS.
You've been patient enough. Get your money or get a new bike.

sounds like the least they could do is slap a new motor in it for you. under warranty of course, if all that stuff is screwed and seized up.

Yesterday I was at the shop when it opened. I talked to the service manager and she said she has call Genuine daily, sometimes 4 and 5 times, NO ONE IS RETURNING HER CALLS. First Ill point out they have 3 tech.s plus the service manager, that have little to do cept clean up the shop that is spotless already. The bike is brokendown on the work platform (they have 10 platforms 8 were empty). waiting on Genuine to send the parts. It now needs a complete low and top end to repair the bike. I then asked to speak to the owner which was standing there waiting to talk to me. First off he was very appologetic (misspelled word) and looked at the service manager and said i dont care what you have to do get this bike fixed. I can relate to Genuine NOT RETURNING PHONE CALLS. I have tryed to get someone from Genuine to call me for over a month not daily but weekly ill give them a call for them to return my call and no that has not happend. The owner said that he thinks Genuine has downsized there staff in this hard time for he has call others at Genuine billing/order of new bikes not to get anyone to pick up the phone. If something from Genuine does not happen soon the owner well do what is right he said that i did not have to go through the with the Atty. General ave. to get him to stand up and take responsabliy even though I dont feel its the shops fault.
As you might tell at this point i really want a Rattler, I have my reasons for wanting this bike other than its just a bike.
Yes brimstone the engine is toast, they would put another Engine in but unable to get Genuine help. Just a little info: You have a Gas Engines and and electic Motor.
Well the buy of a Stella with a sidecar is slowly but surely going to the Vespa ave.

Scooterworks supposedly has an affiliation with Genuine, and their addresses seem like they practically share the same space. Maybe someone at Scooteworks can get you in touch with someone at Genuine. Here are some #'s I found for them as well as there address:

Thank you MacJac, ill call the service manager with the numbers you provided and explane to her the deal. As excited the owner was to get this fixed right and ASP maybe they can just buy the parts from scooterworks, or get some help or direction on which way to go. Again i really want a Rattler, plus i already have the rear rack and box.

Got the bike home after the 30 mile ride. I did not shut off once, ran very well. Got to re-runin again but this time the waits are longer being the weather is warmer. Runin is very important on a new 2stroker... cooler weather really helps in the cooldown time, in this heat,,, 80+ its best to cooldown at least an hour before firing her back up and taking off.
Was very unhappy that the Genuine box i bought does not match the color of the Rattler nor does it mount properly. Using strips of old water hose to keep it from scratching the rack its on there tight but color is way off, i should have gotten the black box, the buddy red is way off from the red on the Rattler. I forsee me repainting the bike Victory Red in the very near future.
I'm not sure why it took so long (2 days shy of 3 months) to get it back on the road. At least it seams to be fixed and running well, i well order the clutch spring and a few jets for the carb in the next few weeks from scooterworks. One of the main reasons for me getting the 110 is to get away from modding the bike with the pipe, god is the one on my 50 loud. But knowing how it imporved the 50cc in all ranges, (50cc new i got 90mpg 40mph, after mod, 130mpg and over 60mph). I would be happy to hear from someone that has modded the Rattler to get more facts,, or ill just check the forum.
Now to put some leather on and head to Lowe's Motor Speedway, big race weekend.

If you put a Unifilter pod on it with an upjet (ditch the airbox) you'll get a remarkably better midrange, & it will sound like a proper 2-stroke. Mine uses a 115 main jet with no other mods (stock exhaust)
I have an extra brand new Unifilter (chrome end cap, black foam, fits the stock carb perfectly & looks factory - much better than the airbox) that will be going up for sale shortly...

Speedy i was out riding mine today and thought of you thinking of me and how nice a thought that was... with a BIG SMILL on my face. Iv got 250 miles on the new engine,,, it has ran rather nice and seems to be getting better with Runin... deaccelaration below 20mph is jurkiny but i can live with that for now... have not had to tuch anything,,, carb is set right at the moment, i filled it up (to the wonder mark) and hoped for the best as i took off, ran fine. People at work last night that i would never have thought would like scooters asked about the Rattler what could i say it is more fun than beating up your sister and comes with a key... I have to work tonight and its raining,,, its also the World 600 and its raining,,, going to be a long night... But knowing my Rattle will strike up and rattleon at the press of a button has a comfort feeling.... later dudes

Oh what a wonderful day for riding a bike. I take off on my New Rattler with a full tank of gas, oil, I head out of town for a overnight trip to see my daughter (21years old). 100 miles one way. I head out at 10am at 10:15 crusin at 40-45 the bike starts spitting and just about dies. I pull over keeping the bike running,,, every time i go to give it gas it spits and carry's on like it just will not take the gas,,, i slowly turn around and head back to the house. 20-25mph tops with it spitting and carrying on about a mile from the house i just gave it all the gas. It pick up speed to 40 spitting and carrying on.... bike idled fine and would start off fine but soon as you try to go it spit... took the plug out and bingo... had pits of trash im taking from the other oil or something... put a new plug in took it for a test drive and it worked fine,,, now its close to noon ,,, you have to let it cool down to change the plug... now im hurting for time and in a rush.(something i hate) I head back on the road,,, I stop about every 15 to 30 mins to rest my old bones. 10 miles from where im going i stop for the last time to check on the flowers that i got my daughter in the "Cooterhull" and there looking ruff from the time being in it. Get my walet and go in the store for a drink and come out there is a puddle of oil under my bike and i can see oil dumping on the ground. OH GOD NO!!! a 1/4 of a Qt. is on the ground all over the side of the tire and rest of the bike. I just filled it up yesterday and i thought that i might have over filled it... I took the seat off in the parking lot sun to see if i could find the problem. Yep theres the problem the clamp is not on the oil line from the tank to the pump and its leaking as if its off... with further investigation in to this matter in order to get to the oil line hose to put the clamp on one has to remove the oil tank in order to put on the clamp... if anyone has even thought about removeing the oil tank you know what that would take to do... about an hour and half to do it... screw it.. after an hour i called my daughter she came picked me up i chained the bike to a pole and left... i handed her the now dead flowers and gave her a kiss... lets go EAT!!! I looked at her and said i should have left the som-bich with the key in it un chained and let some stupid ass steal it...
Im 90 miles from home,,, iv used my ONE time 24 hour road side service... im on my own... i call my buddy that has a rollback he said pay for the fuel and he would come get my bike... cost me $80 bucks. The oil tank is dry.
This should not have happened at all. Not putting that little small clamp back on that oil line ( and two others) has really said something about his workmanship... how stupid...
Now what Gent'men? I was just at the shop to get oil for the short trip yesterday saying how well i was pleased with them fixing it and how good the bike was running. The bike was running fine when i stoped and the tank was half full of oil when i took the seat off im sure the engine is ok... after takin the seat off i did start it to see if oil was shooting out or what and it ran fine... So im sure the engine is not hurt...
So now that im home and typing here i look over at the rattler and wonder what other short cuts were taken... yea its going back,,, unacceptable... its a good thing the short cut did not take my life or someone else like my daughter... were were fixing to go scoot to get something to eat as soon as i got there... oil being poored on the rear tire you figure the rest out... hell im going riding on another bike its too pretty a day... Help?

That's a complete buz kill, I feel for ya brother.
Sound like what ever shop you go to, is really putting a strain on your professional relationship. I hope you rats alright, and you have nothing but smooth riding from here on out. Keep us informed though.
