Modern Buddy

it seems a lot of people have painted their scoots with krylon fusion for plastics spray paint. I have done this to two bikes, a green and a blue rough house. this was my first attempt to paint a bike. first attempt was to make the blue one(my wife's)white. we used 3 cans of dover white krylon fusion on it and it didnt turn out so well, it actually looks ok at a glance, but the paint was very watery and has lots of runs. we did not have this problem when using orange krylon on the green rough house. we used the same method to paint and had no runs or flaws, and the orange came out looking very nice. I was just wondering has anyone else ever tried the WHITE krylon, and if so did you have the same problem with runs, is this only a problem with the white and not any of the other colors?

Man, that orange one looks so sharp! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your racks? I just put mine on, but had to ebay it from Europe. Sorry, also just noticed that you took the little cover off your pipe, is there any downside to that?

that's a little slice of awesome. did you do any prep work to either the orange or white before starting? this applies to both...

thanks, the racks came on them from the dealer at Scoot Richmond, look up scooterworks online too you should be able to order some from there, no prep really just took all the plastic off and cleaned it, making sure to get all sticky residue off and sprayed them. the heat shields fell off of both of them, the screws vibrated right out and when i was pulling them apart i also noticed a lot of screws that were loosening up, no disadvantage except the hot pipe is exposed.

looking to put reflective tape/vinyl graphics on the white one and rattler handlebars on the orange one

could it have been a difference in temp and or humidity?

if it is cold (below 70) or kind of humid, paint can run -
I used to shoot cars in my garage & used to have to plan it around a weather forecast

dont think so we actually did it inside our apt in the spare bedroom and the weather didnt change much over those few days it was cold and not humid but the heat was on in the room. the white just seemed like a totally different consistency coming out of the can. it was very watery and the orange was not. I have now taken them out riding since the weather is warming up, and they both look nice, you have to look up close at the white one to see the runs. Im not done with them either they are works in progress

Not to revive an old topic, but I'm gonna paint my rat soon and wanted to make sure what you did, Latch. Are you considering painting the silver footrests on yours orange? I think it would look SCHWEET!

You mentioned that you were looking into installing rattler handlebars, any idea how you'd accomplish that? I like the idea and I'd consider doing that myself.

I just used krylon fusion for plastic spray can from ACE hardware. No primer, just took all the plastic off and cleaned it very well, laid it down and sprayed it. be careful not to apply it too thick or it will run. Hold the can about 8inches off the plastic and move the can back and forth as you spray never hold the can in one spot at all. It takes patience, as you have to apply many coats of light mist of paint leaving each misting of paint about 5-10mins to dry so there are no runs. Spray over each peice once lightly, let it sit, and repeat, I think it took almost three cans to paint the whole scoot. And I did paint the foot pegs white on the white one but thought it would look better to leave the pegs on the orange scoot alone. I would still like to do Rat handlebars, havnt really looked into that much yet, but its supposed to be very easy.
