De-restricting your Roughhouse

So have you done it?

I'm picking up my new Roughhouse tomorrow afternoon, and I'm quite excited. :D I'm already ready for the inevitable limitedness of the thing, but I'm wondering who has de-restricted their Roughy, and how do you like it as compared to stock?

My dealer won't do them due to an agreement between his store and Genuine, apparently.

Is it something you can do yourself? From some accounts around the internet, it's do-able for those who are even only a little mechanically inclined.

Hey... Rochester NY

Howdy neighbor

Do you have an impact wrench, there might be a spacer in the clutch?
I don't remember how they restricted them

Ruffles,

Come on into the shop and I'll give you the instructions (seven pages, with photos) to derestrict your Roughhouse.

Please keep in mind that here in NY the stock Roughhouse is considered a "Class B Limited Use Motorcycle" simply because it has its top speed restricted to 30 MPH. Removing that restriction (which involves a change to the variator and the exhaust) changes it to a full Motorcycle classification.

There are two differences caused by changing the classification:

1) You will need a motorcycle license to ride, and
2) You will need to replace your transferable registration with a title, which costs $50.

As a dealer we prefer to sell them with their original classification. Life is simpler that way.

DEFINATELY DE RESTRICT YOUR ROUGH HOUSE!

my husband had his done from the start and I opted not to, yeah it was the worst decision ever, haha, I went back the next day and got mine done, sooooo much better.

its bad enough to be limited to 45-50 with cars, you dont want to be left at 30, beleive me.

Thanks for the advice!

I got it derestricted and the difference is awesome. Instead of nicely chugging to 30-35 mph, I'm surging faster and smoothly to 40 mph without trouble, and even hit 50 mph on a flat road! Driving with a passenger is so much more bearable too, and it makes the lengthy 35-45mph roads here much more safe for me. 8)
