Topcase for Roughhouse 50 - Anybody Done It?

Post by robby »

Has anybody successfully mounted the Genuine (or other brand) topcase on their Roughhouse 50? I really want to add one, but when I worry that it will block access to the gas tank. Anybody have experience or thoughts on this? Would I be able to use the stock rack?

This is the case I'm looking at, though I'd happily consider other options too.

I've added a top case to mine with no problems. The hard part is getting the bracket under the factory rack.. I ended up installing a rear rack from my old TGB, it gave me a little more clearance between the bottom of the rack and the top of the scooter body.
I don't suffer from insanity........I enjoy every second of it!

Good to know, thanks! I'll probably just have my dealer do it, as I don't think they charge for installation when you buy from them.

I went with a tail bag & have been very happy with it - but I do have to take it off to gas up
but... it is 4 built in bungie hooks so it only take a few seconds

Photos & info are here if you are interested in this option

That's a good idea. My only concern is whether I need something that locks. Can that bag fit a second helmet?

yeah... NOT secure - anyone with a knife could cut it open but thats not a problem where I ride to & park.

Helmet? maybe an open face - NOT a full face

sounds like you might need a regular top case

I really want something that can take brake lights. I was looking at a Coocase or the Givi e30. Do you know what I'd need to be able to install those on the Roughhouse without blocking access to the gas tank?

I guess specifically, does anybody know what I would need to mount this on a black Roughhouse 50? (assuming it can be done)

Every quick removable box will come with a mounting plate, the plate will allow you to move the box out of the way of the filler. Another box we use is the E-Ton BeamerIII box. It is shaped to allow for gas filler access. comes with a high light built in.

That has me hopeful, thanks.

My main concern is that the stock rack only has one crossbar, and the outer edge is much thicker, designed at least in part to grabbed to pull the scooter back over the double kickstand. I wonder if that will be suitable for the universal mounting plate. Here's a photo if it helps at all:

I added a top case to my Rough House like scooternutz pic above.. sorry it took so long to post this pic. The mounting plate position allows more than enough room to access the gas cap. I used only one mounting bracket near the rear of the rack above tailight to secure mounting plate as there was little or no clearance room to put it anywhere else.

I bolted on a rubbermaid action packer, plenty of room for a helmet and it locks. Added some reflectors for some extra bling! I still have access to my gas cap, also I bolted on a new pad for my back so i can lean way back and enjoy the ride!!

wally world ( i know ) has great marine battery waterproof cases for under $10, i was looking for something temp/for my `74 vespa 90 it has noooo storage. so i have a pre-drilled stainless flat bars from hardware store and the
sweet thing about this case is it is solid black, and the entire top comes off.so it`s ez to pak. a 2nd helmet would fit.,,but do you have a seat spike to hang the other helmet, that is my choice for a 2nd.?
a small hardware lock could be drilled/mounted ez enuff all for about $20, it made for a boat so a scooter in weahter is great imho,,
,, they also have $11 /gal of (ash burn) grade 2t oil i have been looking for as about 4 $ a qt for other 2t.
good luck dude
