*clarified - gear oil

Got a Roughhouse 50.

I was wondering what's a good recommended time to get that first gear oil change done? Is this something I should leave up to the dealer?

Thanks..

Um......which oil are you referring too? What did your dealer explain to you?

Easy guys, take a look, it's his first post and probably his first scooter.

Anyway, if you are referring to gear oil, it's pretty easy to do and the factory recommends you change it at 300 miles. After that I think it's every 1000 miles.

It's pretty simple to do, first find the oil fill plug on the rear of the trans case and open it.

Second, find the drain plug on the bottom of the trans case and open it with a wrench. Keep in mind that oil will start flowing as soon as the plug is removed so keep rags and a wide mouth container ready to catch the gear juice.

Third, once all the used oil is drained (about half a cup) reinstall the drain plug.

Finally, refill the gear oil with the proper gear oil (80/90 weight I think, but don't take that as gospel, check with you dealer) to the recommended level. Make sure you don't over fill; you'll have a mess on your hands and wheel if you do.

I hope this helps, you can always have it done by your dealer if you have any doubts. After all they whats they get paid for!

Make your life a little easier. The tubes of Gear oil they sell are usually 90cc... just enough to fill your transmission. DO NOT fill it like a car differential or you'll be sorry.
