Where do you ride Richmond?

Been finding excuses to drive my Roughhouse all over Richmond. I live near University of Richmond and have found the rides through campus enjoyable.

Some other favorite spots are

-Fan
-Monument (pre-cobblestone!)
-Riverside Drive along James River
-Grove / Patterson (finally paved!)
-Westham Pkway
-Cherokee Rd
-Old Gun Road
-South Ridge Road

I just hate crossing the Huguenot Bridge. This is the one time on my ride I feel real unsafe. Potholes and uneven pavement galore.

I really love riding Three Chopt at any time other than rush hour. I'm also thinking of taking a ride out to Ashland Coffee and Tea. I've mapped out a route along some back roads where the speed limits are lower. I can probably find a route from the campus which would be workable if you're interested. Is your scoot derestricted? It'd be one of the longer rides I've taken so far. I've tried to keep my riding to the streets I know well for a while. I've been getting the itch to take some longer rides, hopefully through some very quiet rural areas. Send me a PM if you want to get together to go for a ride. There's also a scooter club that takes rides on the first or last Sunday of the month (you can definitely find out when they ride through Scoot Richmond's calendar). I'm probably taking that ride to Ashland on Thursday or Friday, depending on how many of the things I need to actually do get done by then.

my favorite place to ride is definetly down Riverside, I do that often because I also live on Riverside Dr. All the places you guys mentioned are also pretty good rides, not sure I can actually think of a suggestion that hasnt been mentioned already, maybe I need to ride some more and discover a new road. Im pretty much down to ride whenever, PM me if either one of yall are ever looking to ride. never been on a ride with nothing but 50s, that would be pretty cool. only problem I have is my wife's scooter was stolen so now Im really slow if she rides 2up with me. I beleive there is a first sunday ride this sunday too, I always go on those, its a lot of fun, pretty large turnouts usually.

ive thought about doing that before, sounds like a really good ride, Ive gone that route before riding with someone in a car, never driven any other way down there except for I-64 or route 60. I would love to arrange a ride down there one day on a saturday or sunday, maybe stop at a few places in williamsburg, I think an all 50cc ride would be pretty cool too

I actually really enjoy my commute with my de-restricted Roughhouse--I come from Oregon Hill to near Short Pump one of two ways: Broad St all the way from Belvidere to Gaskins, or Monument to Three Chopt to Gaskins (and any number of out-of-the-way routes I can take on the way home; generally going in to work I'm pressed for time).

In my experience, coming from northside onto the Huguenot Bridge is easier than coming from southside. Once you get over the bridge (assuming you hit the light at the bottom of the hill, and are thus able to maintain speed) the road goes to two lanes and you can get over to allow people to pass. Coming from southside, I nearly always hit the light red and have to turn off to the right repeatedly and wait for the traffic to pass going up the hill. As far as potholes go, in Richmond you can't escape death, taxes, or potholes. Unless you begin memorizing them (e.g., I can tell you how to avoid all the patches and potholes on Broad going west until you hit Staples Mill, where they mysteriously become nearly extinct! [hint: it's where Henrico begins; this is one of the most reliable ways to tell where the city limits of Richmond are]).

Also Brook Rd southbound is hella-fun (northbound is decent), as is Hungary Rd from Brook to Broad and back.

I take some of those same routes pretty often. They are good rides.

well if seven hills wanted to plan it that would be cool too, I'm not saying it needs to be 50s only, it just seems like thats something that nobody ever does. I think ive got this name thing straight now, it always takes me a while to learn people's names, whats in a name anyway? lol it just sounds like it would be an awesome ride, I just need to be able to get Erica a replacment scoot cuz 2up on the Rough House just isnt cutting it

Bigger bikes leave 36 minutes later and you all meet up at the destination.

Try Woodbridge road out sometime. It's a short easy ride (I use this when I want to unwind on my way to/from work). It's 35mph, but no one does the speed-limit in RVA ever, so take that for what it's worth. The other routes are nice... I think there's one or two I've not tried yet. Hopefully I'll get to add them to my belt notches soon. Riverside is an easy favorite. I often sneak out for a night ride along there.

If any of you folks decide to do this 5&10 route, I'd definitely be interested in at least meeting up with some of you at some point or another. This sounds like a nice relaxing ride. Next Sat looks to be a beautiful day (comparatively speaking in regard to the crap weather we've had in August). I'm not sure I'd be down with a 4 hour ride... I don't think I have that much control over my right hand, unless the speed limit enforces it, of course. But I'd definitely be up for some BBQ at Peirce's (sp?). Hell, I've got a pass for BG, so I could go for a coaster ride as well.

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

For anyone driving around Cherokee/Old Gun area, be careful of deer right now. I counted around 10 tonight between Cherokee Road to Robius on Old Gun.
