I bought my Rattler used with 1900 miles on it. The rear brake hardly worked. I thought it was the adjustment until I tried to adjust it. I checked out this forum and found that everyone had the same complaint.... the Rattler just has weak rear brakes. Well, now I have 2800 miles on it and recently, I noticed that the rear brake was out of adjustment (I can compress the lever to the grip very easily). I adjusted the rear brake and voila! I can now lock up the rear tire. NOW the rear brakes seem fine. I am sure I couldn't adjust the rear brakes to do that before but now I can. Anyone else notice stronger brakes after some time?? 2800 miles sure seems like a lot for break in though. Maybe, on my next set of drums, I'll try the old race car trick of putting my brake pads in a barbecue grill to heat cycle them before I install them. Maybe, because the brakes are so weak, they never get a chance to properly heat cycle and they never break in.
I have never liked the weak rear brakes. On scooters, the majority of the weight is on the rear and I have always found that I use more rear brake on scooters than I do on motorcycles (although I still use more front than rear). Glad that after 2800 miles, I finally have good rear brakes!
