my roughhouse's engine doesn't like me :'(

Post by alae93 »

I've got a brand new Roughhouse (just shy of 290 miles on it). I love it very much and I've had no real problems until today. I'm not very knowledgeable about stuff like this--this is my first way of getting around that isn't a bicycle--so unfortunately you might have to humor my cluelesness...

Coasting along today at 30-35mph my throttle started to crap out. I had to turn it pretty hard to get it to do anything at all--and meanwhile, when I *did* get it to do anything, the throttle proceeded to act like it would normally under the circumstances (as in, sudden jolt of acceleration--not fun or safe).

This got worse until my throttle finally died altogether. I pulled it to the side of the road and tried to get it started again--no luck, not for all the ignition-futzing and kickstarting in the world. The lights were still working, so I knew it wasn't a battery-something, and my gas gauge said I had a little over half a tank, so unless my gauge is fubar this isn't it. (I might add more gas anyway--can't hurt...)

In retrospect I should have known this was coming; I had a similar incident yesterday where my throttle was uncooperative and my engine was making a very low rumbly noise while idling. But feeding it a little gas fixed that, at the time. When I didn't have any other problems I thought it was maybe the weather (it's been chilly and wet).

Can anyone diagnose my problem or point me to a site where I can get more help? I'm not sure what my problem is--my friends are speculating about fuel lines and carburetors, and I'm daunted :P Ideally I'd like to at the very least get my scooter working well enough that I can take it five miles to the shop!

Check the sparkplug. It may have gotten gummed up somehow. Do you still have the factory oil in?

take it to the dealer, this is why you have a warranty

i am going to guess your carb needs to be readjusted, the air/fuel screw likes to work it's way out
