Rattler Shock - Need help with Adjusting

Post by SrgtBear »

So I've been riding my rattler for a few months now. My brother has a buddy 125. We switched on a ride home and I amazed on how much smoother the ride was on the buddy. The problem is that the rattler feels every damn bump in the road. And when it hits them they feel hard and im jolted off my seat. The shock is full expanded for maximum softness but still feels stiff as a brick. Bike is 2009 with 1500 miles.

Has anyone had an experience with getting the rattler shock to feel / work better? I need a softer ride, but don't know if there is anymore adjusting I can do.

Meh, if you know this bike, any advice would help.

If the preload is turned all of the way out then that is the best you can do with the stock shock. How much do you weigh?

150lb.

Do you know where I can get a good aftermarket shock for the rattler. Something that does have more adjustments unlike the fake gas reservoir on the rat.

You weigh enough for the stock spring; perhaps the damping went south. Does the stock pogo on you, or does it just feel over sprung & too harsh?

It definitely functions when i sit on the seat and bounce. (wow, that sounds gay.)

It works. Maybe I am just being a baby about it. I know the rattler shock was beefier when buying the bike but I didn't know it didn't have to capability to get softer. If the rattler was built to be racing bike then it all makes sense now, but they advertise it as an off road bike and it certainly doesn't have a soft enough off-road suspension. You know what im saying?

I think an aftermarket or a shock off a the buddy would fix my trouble. Whatcha think?

You could swap and see. I can't remember which, but one is longer by an inch or so. The shop I used to use said they had swapped out the stock rat for the performance buddy shock. I guess I can't verify this first hand, I know they tried to sell me on every time I went in to buy something.
no i don't ride a scooter, i am a scooter pilot!
