Modern Buddy

I just got a 06 Rattler 50 that has sit for a couple of years and has less than 200 miles on it. It would actually start and run a bit before bogging down so I disassembled the carb and cleaned it out and reinstalled it. Now I have no spark at the plug, before I begin to "explore" the electrical system I thought I should attempt to get some advise.

Sounds like your 1st concern would be the battery. Make sure it has a good charge. If it doesn't then break out the battery charger and see if it will hold a charge. If you can get the battery to work then I would also recommend changing out fuel system items, old gas that sits for awhile will "gum-up" and can cause fuel blockage. Replace fuel filter, check/clean and/or replace air filter, clean fuel tank and refill with fresh gas. And just for a matter of good measure replace your spark plug. Good luck getting the Rat fixed. are you getting any juice from the spark plug wire?

Thanks for the help, I now have spark, and was able to start the engine, however the fuel seems to run through the carb as if the float were stuck. I had already disassembled the carb and cleaned thoroughly, drained and flushed the fuel tank & lines and replaced the filter as well. Am I better off replacing the carb?

just replace the float valve is all that needed
or you can try to clean the valve -i use 1000 sandpaper

So after my wiggle the stator joke it appears I have angered the scooter gods.
I was checking my spark plug yesterday and when I pulled the boot off, the metal connector that has the small c clamp on it to hold it to the spark plug came out in two pieces?
I tried to replace just one piece of it and the scooter started but now it won't?

Is this normal, and if not can I find this part someplace else, or can I just replace the spark plug with a new one with the top on it, and will it work?

If its the brass piece that clamps to the top of the plug, I think you can fix it. If you push the wire through the boot and expose the end, you can see how it's just clamped on there. scoot/atv/cycle shops sell performance boots and wires. But now I'm not sure if they just sell the clamp part.

I gotta go look when I get home. Crap, thought I could help.

Yeah it's the little brass connector that is in the top of the boot, that connects to the top of the spark plug, charging my battery and gonna try a few things, to see if I can get it working correctly, if not I'll have to wait till my shop guy gets back, to find out what to do.

Well, just to let you guys know if you take that brass connector out and leave the original head on your spark plug (the bulbous head, instead of the threaded, don't know the technical term for it) it appears to work just fine.
Gonna taker for a spin and make sure (just a small spin down the block at first, don't wanna push it home )

After a nice mile or so stroll around the neighborhood, it started right up after I hit the kill switch, which is what it was not doing before.
Next test is a longer ride with chase support
On the plus side I'm getting to be a pro at getting my plastics off and on in a snap-digital camo here I come
