Modern Buddy

Once I get the warranty work done on my Rattler 50 I would like to know if there are any things I should look out for or change on the bike to keep it running for a long time.

I used to modify my bikes to no end but I think this one will be kept mostly stock to maintain reliability and stay quiet while being the most fiddle free.

I saw another post about a big bore kit and running a colder than stock plug. Would this be the case with a stock bike?

Are there any other things that should be done to get the most out of my experience?

Hey the colder than stock plug thing really isn't about reliability unless you are having pre-detonation issues. You can tell this by reading the plug and listening to the engine. For instance my 70cc conversion reads best with a plug that is as hot as the stock one for the 50cc. I can run a little richer and cooler without the fouling of the cooler plug.

I suggest you do three things:

1) Follow the maintenance schedule to a T.
2) Get a temperature/tach guage and monitor it. Learn it while new and watch for changes in performance compared to those guages.
3) Regularly (weekly) inspect your scoot like it was an airplane, or have a trusted mechanic do it every thousand miles.
