2009 Rattler 110; @ 175 miles so far...

owners' manual gives guidelines for engine up to 1,000 miles, but states to change gear oil in rear end @ 200 miles...

why the difference in mileage? should I change the gear oil at 200 miles & 1,000 miles to be safe?

The first change at 200 miles is for break in. It's only 90cc and it will come out black. You can buy quart of gear oil for under 10 bucks and have enough for 10 oil changes.

I did the gear oil change myself @ 240 miles...it was dark brown, not black, but the ambient temperatures around here have been in the upper 50's so I'm guessing I didn't get the thermal sheer if I ended buying it mid-summer witrh temps in the 80's or 90's;

the rest of my 'concerns' and rear rack install are being done by dealer in a few days
