New Roughhouse Owner!!

Post by footballa »

Bought a used Roughhouse R50 with 641 miles on it. I feel like I'm insulting it by calling it used because it's in PERFECT condition. I have a few questions though and hope to hear from some fellow riders:

How many gallons can it hold?

What techniques can I use to maximize fuel efficiency?

What speed is best for fuel efficiency?

I haven't fueled it up yet, but it looks right now that I'm getting about 60 miles to the gallon, is that bad? Is there something that should be wrong?

Is rain much of a problem in the long run?

that's all I can think of right now, thanks your input!

  • I've seen reports that it has a 1.3-1.8 gallon tank, but I've never been able to put more than a gallon in.
  • Because of the way the gearing works, the speed of the rear wheel and the speed of the engine are somewhat tied to each other, so holding at a steady throttle will actually make the engine slowly rev up as you speed up and the transmission upshifts.

You should pretty much never use 100% throttle since it just sprays more gas in there without spinning up. If you can back off the throttle a bit without spinning down, do so.
  • 25 is probably best for gas, 30 isn't too much worse.
  • I'm getting around 60mpg and I ride in sub-optimal conditions (mid-30s, most trips are under a mile). Performance and mileage should keep improving until around 1500 miles.
  • I haven't had any issues with rain/snow other than a wet butt; just put a cover on it if you're concerned. You can get them for like $20-40.

Hm. Okay. I live in Florida so snow isn't much of a problem. The guy I bought it from included a cover and I put it on whenever I park outside. The website advertises 90mpg :( why is it only 60

Without knowing what the tank holds and not having filled it up yet, there is no way you can have anything close to an accurate mpg reading. You need to run through multiple tanks (6-10) to get an accurate measure of mpg. To guess at a number based on less than one tank is just not possible.

gallons= 1.04
don't ride WOT to maximize fuel use.
25 MPH as indicated for fuel use.
Mine is averaging 70-75 MPG now, since I have lost weight.
If riding in rain, dress for it, or you will find out the hard way that rain hurts.

The motor is barely broken in yet... so it's new. Congrats.

I have a pipe, lighter sliders, 1000rpm contrast spring and ride wide open throttle all of the time and get 65mpg always.

WOW! Just got my first FULL refill. Paid $2.41 for 0.60 gallons of 93 octane gas. Since I bought it, I've driven 58 miles. So assuming I bought it on a full tank, I get 58 miles per 0.6 gallons which is 97 MPG!! This bike is AWESOME.
