I've had my 2010 Roughhouse50 for 6 months now with no problem, I love it. A few days ago I had an issue putting the fuel cap back after refilling. Now it will not remove, the lock cylinder is totally frozen and unresponsive to the key. I tried WD40 and eventually a flathead screwdriver with no success. In addition apparently my Local dealer is out of business... So, now not only is the fuel cap stuck, but I cant can't seem to find a replacement cap if I have to get a locksmith to break it off.
A flathead screwdriver in a lock cylinder? Is it really busted up now or were you just trying to persuade it? Can you get the key in? What was the "issue" you had putting it back on?
I'd bring it to a locksmith to get it off... that is if you have enough gas to get there. If you have AAA, you could always give them a call.
The "issue" was that it simply wouldn't go back in. It was night and cold so I couldn't really see the "trouble" but then it popped right back in as easily as usual. My best guess is the lock cylinder just froze up as I have seen in many a four wheeled vehicle lock mechanism. When I last tried to remove to refuel the key went in but wouldn't turn. After several days tries I resorted to flathead figuring if I destroy it to remove it I can replace it. But that didnt work either, it is still stuck and now the key won't go in at all. Yes, a locksmith seems to be the only answer at this point. But even removed, I have been having trouble locating a replacement fuel cap. My dealer is no longer and my Google searches have been unhelpful.
Oh boy what a mess. Not something you can drill out that's for sure. You may want to call Scooterworks and see what it will take to get a new fuel cap. It may take awhile to get. You'll want it on hand once the old one is off. You should ask if you can get it keyed to match otherwise you'll need two keys for your scooter. Good luck.
Well this is a pointless help suggestion for your problem but can be used for the future (seeing as how you ruined your cap already).
Use a heating pad on the low setting, it won't get hot enough to cause any gas related fire's, but left on long enough it can melt ice.

^AWinn6889, my reasoning for the heating pad is you can leave it sit for awhile and walk away to do other things, don't think you can do that with a hair dryer.

Great point, but an empty gas tank can still blow up. The fumes are all that's needed. You would need to drain it and fill it with water before doing anything that could cause a spark.
It wasn't frozen, just broken. I think a metal fragment from the lock itself prevented it from working properly. Well I forced it off, removed the spring tabs, so I can use it until the new one comes from Scooterworks.
That's cool you got it off. How does it stay on without the spring mechanism working? I need to use the key to get the cap off and to put the cap back on. I never tried to force it back on.
There was something stuck in the lock cylinder preventing the key from going all the way in and turning. I had to destroy the lock cylinder to remove cap. Once the cap was off I was able to unscrew from the bottom. When the bottom is off you can remove the spring tabs that hold the cap in place. Without these tabs the cap rests in its position, merely just to keep dirt and water out temporarily. It will bounce around, however, and I almost lost the cap on the one of only two times I took it out like this. Luckily, scooterworks had the new cap and keys to me the next day and now I am back to riding as normal.
^So they were able to key it so it still fit your original ignition? Or do you have one key for fuel and one for ignition now? Either way, great that you got it so fast.
Oh, forgot the exact price. Around $30. It is OE (original equipment) and comes with 2 new keys. I paid $53 for the cap, keys, shipping and a liter of 2-stroke oil.
